Tate Student, Grandmother Arrested After Drug Dog Alert

April 8, 2013

A 17-year old Tate High School student was arrested on multiple charges last week after a drug dog alerted on his car, and his grandmother was arrested for creating a disturbance at the county jail.

During a routine K-9 search of the campus, the drug dog alerted officers to drugs in the student’s car in the school parking lot. When school officials and the School Resource Office made contact with the student, a struggle ensued, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The male student was taken into custody, and deputies located marijuana, cocaine and durg paraphernalia is his car.

The students was charged with resisting an officer, disorderly conduct, marijuana possession, cocaine possession, and drug equipment possession.

He was transported to the Escambia County Jail, where he, along with his mother and grandmother created a disturbance in the Rapid Intake area. They were asked by detention deputies to stop yelling and the women were ordered to leave the area. The mother complied, but the grandmother, Dianna Kay Bair, refused to leave after multiple commands, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Bair was taken into custody and charged with resisting without violence. She was released from jail on a $500 bond.

Personally I’m glad that they are getting the kids out of the school that are doing what ever they do with the drugs. Whether it be selling or using. However this also falls back on the parents to. I know too many parents that just allow the kids to do what they want and are happy with not being bothered with them. I hope that they get this under control soon.

They were smoking pot at Tate High 40 years ago.

Minors do not need to be smoking pot and bringing drugs to school.

Focus on your education and training, work smart and when you retire, you will have the rest of your life for such. Business First, Play Second.

    >> I know the whole story on why she was arrested, but unfortunately that was not published. How convenient.

We can only publish the information released by the Sheriff’s Office. It’s not that we pick and choose which side of the story to tell.

    Tate Dad,

If you or your kid don’t pass the intel to the SRO, it will continue…
Problems like these cant be solved without help, from the community.

I understand how everyone feels, but trust me, the whole story has not been published. Think about it, but if it was your child, grandchild or other minor, would you just standby and watch things happening that don’t appear to be right? I know I wouldn’t. I would not be happy the minor was in this position, but I also would not let anyone mistreat them either. I know this as fact since this is my sister and I know the whole story on why she was arrested, but unfortunately that was not published. How convenient.

This poor soul is just hurt and confused—so many of this young generation have no idea how much they are hurting the elderly people who are in their life and love them.

Glad to see the LEO’s finally paying attention to the drug problems at Tate HS. From what my kid tells me, drug use at that school is out of control!!!!

Swift move Grandma! Wish the story would have told us what she was yelling about. Yelling at the Po-lice for arresting her grandson for something so trivial, or yelling at the grandson for having the drugs.

So was he charged as an adult? Lack of communication causes alot of problems not just the police but mostly through the schools.

And we wonder why our young people have no respect for themselves or anyone else.
