One In Custody In Oakwood Terrace Shooting

April 12, 2013

A man wanted in connection with a shooting Thursday morning at the Oakwood Terrace apartment complex in Escambia County has surrendered to deputies.

Christopher Wayne Pressley turned himself in after being  featured in media reports. Thursday night, the Sheriff’s Office said charges were pending against Pressley, including attempted murder and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.

Emergency dispatchers received 911 calls about 10:30 Thursday morning reporting shots fired at the apartment complex on Truman Avenue.  Deputies received information while en-route that a large crowd had gathered outside of the apartments and one victim was also on the ground outside. The Florida Highway Patrol responded to help secure the scene and assist with crowd control.

The 24-year old male victim was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment. His condition was not released.

Please pray for the ‘victim’ in this crime. He was one of the ones who shot the Deputy at Oakwood a few months ago. /sarcasm off

Pursuits have been an issue for a long time. You have to take into account the safety of the citizens vs the fact of allowing the suspect to flee w/o pursuing them. There is a lot that goes into this decision. The main part of the decision lies with your belief as a LEO that if you allow the suspect to flee w/o pursuing them, is he/she a cont’ threat to himself and/or the public? Now you as a citizen take that into account for just a moment. In this incident, I think this guy had shot someone and fled the scene. What would your decision be on a pursuit? Also keep in mind that he could ram into a Mini Van loaded with kids and parents killing lord know who. If you don’t pursue, the suspect could cont’ his/her shooting spree and/or maybe end up in one of the Public Schools taking hostages thinking he/she is getting ready to go to prison for life. He/she also thinks he just killed one person, so why not just keep killing. I’ve seen knee jerk reactions by admin’s of departments my whole career. In this incident, I understand that the Sheriff put out a memo restricting pursuits even more than they already were. I haven’t seen the memo, so can’t verify it. I can say that the suspect in this case was stopped by using a police vehicle to ram the suspect vehicle to get him stopped which is legal by State Law due to the type of crime committed. My point to any of you is this. It’s not as easy as one would think to make this type decision in the little time you have to do it in. It’s kind of like a two edged sword. Any one can Monday morning quarterback an incident especially if you weren’t there. I’m disappointed that the Sheriff would do the knee jerk memo if it is what I’ve been told it was. There is already enough problems with the criminals on the street knowing how far the police can go on issues like this one and they need to be stopped or your crime rate will just keep rising such as it has. Keep in mind that these people have only two things in mind. Their life and safety, not yours. The only way to stop some of this craziness on the street is to let these criminals know you’re not going to tolerate the things they cont’ to do. When you have an elected Sheriff trying to stay in the good grace of the voting public, they will always consider their image to the public when trying to decide on a matter like this one. These are just my thoughts and something to think about the next time you see someone being pursued and what went into that decision. Have a great weekend and be safe.

I am for the removal of the index finger of these shooters.

No trigger finger, no trigger action, no problem.

    Let them throw rocks.

L.E.O. – if you really are a deputy, thank you for the job you do. I am sure that many readers worked for a boss at one time or another that they did not like or respect. No matter how you feel about Sheriff David Morgan, the problem with the escalating crime rate does not lie with him, however. We are a society that no longer holds people responsible for their actions. Politically correct or not, as long as the rights of the criminals are more important than those of their victims, it will not get better – only much worse. If this trend continues law abiding citizens will be prisoners in their homes and can only hope and pray that the predators will spare them for another day.

L.E.O. is correct. Unless it is or can be seen by a deputy, you might as well save your time//cell phone minutes/frustration. Gotta love that no pursuit policy.

Well citizens of Escambia County even if we can find the car with the suspect and he drove of we couldn’t chase him. Thanks to the sheriff unless we.see someone do the shooting or stabbing all they have to do is drive off so they can commit more crimes. Also don’t call in about drunk driver’s because your sheriff doesn’t care for your safety he worries about people.driving. So don’t complain to the deputies we can’t do anything but take a report. We.have a chicken admin who don’t care about catching criminals.
