Six-Year Old Dies In Escambia, Ala. Traffic Crash

April 20, 2013

A six-year old girl was killed in a single vehicle accident in Escambia County, Ala., on Friday.

Alabama State Troopers said 27-year old Lisa Hart of Brewton ran off the road in her 1996 GMC Jimmy, struck a utility pole and overturned. Hart and passenger 31-year old Christopher Dean of Repton, Ala,. were transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton for their injuries.

Alexis Pugh, Hart’s daughter, was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no seat belts being used in the crash, which occurred on Highway 41 about three miles north of Brewton.

Troopers are continuing their investigation, but they have said that speed appeared to be a factor in the fatal crash.

Pugh was a kindergarten student at Brewton Elementary School.

Starleigh, you are correct in saying when God calls us its our time to go but he did not tell her not to buckle her baby, the little girl could have unbuckled herself, but to tell that girl god called her baby if she didn’t buckle her is wrong.

Please pray for this family, for they have lost their precious child! God has called and asked for his child to return home. We have to remember that our Children are God’s Children too, and when He calls for them to come they will come. She left alot of sadden hearts and we need to pray for her family in this sad time. My heart is very hurt by all the negative things people are writing about this family, please stop and look at what you are saying; this could happen to anyone….We are only here for however long God wants us to be here. Please remember how much happiness this child brought to everyone so she can continue to live in our hearts!!

I worked in Law Enforcement Communications, and I was talking with a now-retired Alabama State Trooper about seatbelts and wrecks. He told me that in almost all the accidents he worked, if a death occurred and a seatbelt was used, it wouldn’t have mattered whether it was used or not. On the other hand, regarding almost all deaths where a seatbelt was NOT used, lives would have been saved if the occupants had been buckled in.

Take it for what you will, but I prefer to take the word of the Professionals.

I don’t agree with the people who wish to sugar coat such a tragedy. Yes it’s painful and no one thinks it was “intentional” , but had the parent (or) parents been a little more cautious then this may not have happened.

Don’t wait until its too late to do something about these kinds of things.. Act Now!

Buckle Up ! It’s the law for a reason.

Good for you Lisa. Keep calling.

Oh Kelly! I am positive her mom has no need of a ticket to “teach her a lesson”. She just lost her precious child. That was lesson enough. I am willing to bet that this is one family that will never again fail to buckle a child in.

    So sorry for your loss.

With all due respect to the family involved in this tragedy, as a retired LEO, I probably have become calloused to human mistakes which turn into tragedy. I have seen drivers who are driving with small children in their laps. My question, or comment, is do they not trust their air bag, or do they think the child will protect them in a crash? I do not want to inflict insult on a family that has had a horrible tragedy inflicted upon them. My point is to play it forward. People, protect your children, buckle them in. Life is very fragile. Think ahead.

As for me and my family we will be praying for strength for Lisa and her family and friends. Remember “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” John 8:7

no seat belts and only one out of three died.

those who like to gamble would like those odds

those who love children would not like those odds

    Do you love your child?

    David for loving parents
    and less need to comfort
    due to fewer hurt

Very sad, and the guilt the adults will have to live with is going to be unbelievable. So sorry for their loss, yet so preventable. Sad.Sad,Sad.

This is a tragedy. and something that could have possibly been avoided if the child was wearing a seatbelt. I Hope the parent is charged with something, even if just neglect maybe it will teach her a lesson, as well as other parents who neglect to seatbelt their children, all because they are to lazy!!! This makes me sick.

Guess I would rather send out prayers to the family in this sad time rather than get on a soap box and tell them what they did wrong like everyone seems to do. Praying hard for this family.

This child was ejected from the vehicle. Seatbelt may have saved her life. Hard lesson for her mother. I will be praying for her and her family, and the responders who worked this wreck..these calls are never easy on us, we are human and it takes a toll. Some people tell me “seatbelts can kill u to”..i am a emt/ff and have worked many wrecks,i can say that seatbelts saved a lot more lives than it has taken….prayers for this girls family and freinds.

I had a state trooper tell me that that it was perfectly fine to call 911 and report unbuckled kids just like if it was a drunk driver. It is not safe to confront someone and tell them what they need to do. Let LEOs do it.

@ Lisa, Know your frustration. Saw a family with two cute little preschool kids get into their car and the kids in backseat jumping around and parents no seatbelts either. As they drove past I said, Hey buckle up the kids. Brakes slammed on, guy backs up and unloads a ton of cussing telling me mind my own business, etc. Could smell beer on his breath strong. I just stood there as he tore off out of the parking lot…..just said a prayer for the kids safety.
Near any time we hear of a wreck and death there is no seatbelt used.
Buckle up, the kids in my car know it won’t even start until all are belted in.

That is the reason why I call everybody in that I see that does not have their babies buckled, yes I understand some things are unforeseen& may be the 1st time for you, sometimes my husband tells me to leave them alone which I don’t, because I don’t know if It’s the first x or not especially if I see a baby baby or one less than school age unless I see them pull from 1 house to a house next to it & not get on the rd only drive down side,if your paying attention you can & will see these things.
