Charles Albert Dean

Mr. Charles Albert Dean, age 85, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at home with his family. He was a life-long resident of Lottie, where he was born on Nov. 4, 1927.  Albert served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman Apprentice aboard the USS HELENA (1948-1949) and the USS DE HAVEN (1949-1950), and was enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves (1950-1954). He was a Baldwin County farmer and an auto and bus mechanic, retiring as shop foreman from the Baldwin County public school transportation department in 1994. Albert was known for his lively sense of humor and his strong work ethic. He was a good friend with a kind heart. A loving husband, a sweet father, he was devoted to his family who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David E. Dean, Sr., (Willie); and his siblings and their spouses, Frank Dean (Ola); Herbert Dean (Estelle); Ruby Hayles (Otis); Myrtle Shiver, and Claude E. Dean, Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Jean (Dannelly) Dean; four daughters, Gwen Myers (Scott) of Beaufort, S.C., Mary Kate Dean of Fairhope, Carla Wasdin (Al) of Lottie and Glenda Dean of Montgomery; one brother, David E. Dean, Jr., (Majorie) of Lottie; four grandchildren, Kyle and Burt Wasdin, and Nicholas and Olivia Myers; brothers-in-law, John Shiver, Jr. of Atmore, and Travis Dannelley of Eight Mile; other sisters-in-law, Cleo Dean Gwaltney of Silverhill and Peggy Dannelly of Spanish Fort; and many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the Lottie Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Still officiating. Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery in Lottie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the Lottie New Home Perpetual Care Cemetery.
