The victims and a driver that fled a scene have been identified in an alleged drag racing accident that claimed two lives early Saturday morning.

Witnesses told the Florida Highway Patrol that 30-year old Modesto Becerril-Lopez,  the driver of a 2000 Volkswagen Passat, was racing the driver of an Acura on Blue Angel Parkway approaching Cerney Road.  Becerril-Lopez lost control and hit a tree. He and his passenger, 21-year old Juan Vazquez-Moreno, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Acura fled the scene. Monday afternoon, troopers said the driver, 19-year old Aden Michael Yabut, and his Acura had been located and were part of an ongoing investigation. Charges are pending the results of a traffic homicide investigation, the FHP reported.

Adam I am not about impressing you, Im about impressing ME.

I would recommend that you lighten up and have some fun. Take a drive in the country and take comfort in the certainty, that all roads lead to Ausfahrt. Ciao.

429SCJ , HUH? What are you talking about? I am a pretty old dude also. I have never heard the term “side-step the clutch”. Pray tell, what does it mean? If you want to say pig alley, it’s fine with me, i thought it was just a description of the ladies that worked there.
I saw that commercial where the guy uses “savoir faire” to impress the girl. I am impressed as much as she.

Adam I am not looking to win anything and I do not believe I want to argue with you. I will think of you though, each time I have the occasion to side-step the clutch.

Adam, the correct spelling is Pigallie, named after sculptor Jean B. Pigallie, but I like alley better, its just seems so very savoir faire. Yes I have been a few places, but that was yesterday, when I was young.

One other note. You are informing us that prostitution is legal in parts of Europe. But, the governments do not provide the resources, (facilities, beds and other needs).
Here in the good ole USA, building and operating a drag strip, in the correct zone, is perfectly legal also.

429SCJ, These two were not serious racers. It was a spur of the moment tragedy. I doubt they would be interested in a sanctioned contest.
Well I must admit I am not as informed on European Prostitution as you. You win on that one.

FLSTCI, you and 429SCJ should pool your money and open a drag strip. I hope y’all don’t think the taxpayers should build one. You could probably get started with maybe a million dollars or so. Insurance would run about ten grand a race. Anyway, if you think that would stop drag racing on the highway, I got some Arizona water front property to sell ya.

Adam I do not approve of prostitution, however in Europe it is regulated by LE and Health Services. You don’t see sights such as Brownsville in Saxenhausen, Pig Ally, Soho or the barges of Amsterdam.

Adam in Europe the tax revenues generated by prostitution is a cash cow for Government. Having Jons and Tricks off the street reduces street crime. The entry fees and reduced mayhem effected by a dragstrip would most likely save the taxpayers of Escambia County money. I see fewer wrecks and by drawing the Street Racer Demographic to a central location, it would be easier for LE to keep them in check.

429SCJ…. I agree there should be organized local drag racing.

Apparently 429SCJ, is one that thinks the government (all the taxpayers) should be all things to all people. Maybe the government should provide houses of prostitution. That way the Brownsville hookers and Johns won’t break the law.

I don’t see how you prove that the driver of the blue Acura was even there…unless someone got his tag #? And, I agree as to it’s the driver’s fault for him racing him in the first place.

Highways should not be racetracks. That is one reason accidents happen and innocent people get killed. In this case it was the people racing. Either way people need to realize a car or truck can become a lethal weapon when used the wrong way.

homicide means killing of a human, by whatever means

  13. 429SCJ on January 15th, 2013 5:45 am

LE and local government should try and locate a sutible location to hold organized events. Entry fees would cover LE and EMS presence. A great way to gather intel is an added side benefit for LE.

Just a thought, if you cannot make something go away, regulate it and control it.

Racing on the highway is a violation of Florida Statute – 316.191

Leaving the scene of accident involving death or personal injuries is a violation of Florida Statute – 316.027

There may also be a violation of Florida Statute – 316.062 - Duty to give information and render aid.

Only time will tell as to the actual charges. Just another reason why the highways shouldn’t be used to drag race.

    >>Why call it a homicide like the acura driver did it?

The story does not call it a homicide. It says “Charges are pending the results of a traffic homicide investigation” — which is exactly what the FHP report states.

The FHP traffic homicide unit conducts an investigation on every fatal crash that occurs, even single vehicle, single driver fatalities.

Why call it a homicide like the acura driver did it? Perfectly states they lost control and witnesses saying they raced and lost control. No one elses fault for someone losing control of their car when racing.
