Fire Destroys Shooting House
January 13, 2013
Firefighters from the Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to a reported brush fire late Saturday night to find that a Walnut Hill shooting house had been destroyed by fire.
A passerby reported seeing a brush fire several yards off Highway 97 south of Howell Road. When firefighters arrived, the shooting house was already a total loss and a small brush fire had been sparked by the blaze. The fire was quickly extinguished.
There was no word on the cause of the fire.

ARSON> It was reported that A Deer was spotted leaving the scene with a gas can and a match.
Maybe, some one wants to give the deer a fighting chance,
Shooting house has got to be one of the most common words in this area. I say it about three times a day this time of year!! Wish I was in my “shooting house” now!
Thanks William, that makes sense. The term “shooting” house is not a common description and made me wonder exactly what they were talking about.
>>What is a “shooting” house?
That’s what Escambia Fire-Rescue termed it. I would imagine shooting house = wooden (perhaps enclosed) deer stand.
What is a “shooting” house?
