Escambia County Mosquito Illness Advisory Lifted

January 15, 2013

The mosquito-borne illness advisory issued for Escambia County back in August has been lifted. The Escambia County Health Department said surveillance data indicates that the risk of human infection has decreased.

Although mosquito-borne illnesses are less common in the winter months, the health department said it is important that residents of Escambia County continue to observe the proper precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes that may cause disease.

A total of 13 people were diagnosed with West Nile Virus in Escambia County during 2012. One case was fatal.

I would gladly pay a 4 cent gas tax for a decent Mosquito control program!
Last summer was terrible. From Century to Downtown Pensacola, you would get eaten alive. The little buggers are still bad and its January!

getting mosquito control to respond is the problem, they apparently have to come out and monitor an area prior to treatment and even then have to catch a specific number of mosquito’s before they treat. I only saw their truck one time this past summer and then nothing. When I called to complain about the mosquito problem especially at the grandchildren’s school bus stop I was informed they had limited funding and therefore would not be able to respond. So much for health issues being more important than funding. Funny the county commissioners found a way to fund ECAT whether we ride or not (ECAT) the loosing venture of all times will continue to run itself into the hole but a much needed health problem will be ignored.
