Century Traffic Stop Lands Woman In Jail On Meth Charges

January 14, 2013

A traffic stop in Century landed a Brewton woman in jail on multiple drug charges.

Keisha Lee Odom, 26, was charged with two felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

An Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy stopped Odom on Hecker Street in Century due to having no tag light. After Odom consented to a vehicle search, deputies reported finding a long list of drug paraphernalia, including coffee filters that tested positive for meth residue and  burnt glass bongs.

After she was placed under arrest, deputies reporting finding a cigarette box in her pants pocket that contained a bag with a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamines.

Odom told deputies, according to an arrest report, that she had no knowledge of the meth or methamphetamine because  the vehicle belonged to her cousin and the cousin had just given her the cigarette box in which the meth was located.

Deputies also located a 12 gauge Winchester in the vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Harris County, Georgia, in 1985. Odom was not charged in connection with the weapon theft because she was not born until 1986. She told deputies the gun had been handed down in her family for years.

Odom was booked into the Escambia County Jail and later released on a $6,000 bond. The Dodge Durango she was driving was seized by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

The same thing happened to me in Alabama, the cops just made up the part about the tag light, it was working fine

and you are the NEXT contestant on the Family Fued!!! Wow, sounds like she tried to throw a cousin under the bus and now it’s backfiring. Gotta love it

  4. Cousin's Sister on January 15th, 2013 1:06 pm

I am the sister of the cousin that this was blamed on & to “Confused” she is a cousin not a friend. I hate that this has happened, but I pray that it opens my sisters eyes and Keisha’s for that matter. Had my sister been more responsible and not let her use her vehicle in the first place she wouldn’t have even been put in the picture. However, for Keisha to say that she just got the vehicle from my sister is absurd and a complete lie. My sister let her borrow it before Christmas. All that is water under the bridge now and all we can do is pray hard that they both use this situation to their advantage!!

To you people complaining about my comment, I have been stopped before and when asked why the deputy said my tag light was out but as soon as he left I checked and both lights were working. Don’t think that some cops won’t stop you under false pretense.

    Shelly,

Christ does forgive, and he will if she asks for it sincerely. But people who lead this lifestyle ask for it. This time she got it. Forgiveness is given, as well as punishment. She needs both.

  7. Shelly on January 15th, 2013 10:30 am

@ cousins mother I’m sorry for your inconvenience but I just hate seeing people bash other people when there down yes she has made some bad choices but she not done nothing that our Lord will not forgive her for!!! Like I said earlier NO ONE of the face of this earth is perfect everyone needs to learn to clean up there on door step and this old world would be a lot better off!!!!

As far as blaming it on the cousin. No person that does meth gives it to someone. It’s used quickly. And the filter ain’t give away either. Meth users use they don’t forget where it is. And if they do have it they ain’t telling nobody cuz they don’t wanna share.

  9. one of her cousins on January 15th, 2013 10:00 am

  10. Cousins Mother on January 15th, 2013 9:31 am

For “CONFUSED” and everyone else – the Dodge does belong to her cousin, I am that cousins mother who purchased the vehicle for my daughter and now because of Keisha’s actions and disloyalty to “family” I also have to pay the $500.00 + dollar impound fee to get my daughters vehicle back.I have to take time off of work, drive over a hundred miles to get there (a hundred miles back) – where is the “family” when everything goes wrong for all involved. And yes Shelley I do pray everyday, for my children and grandchildren and their safety from pear pressure, drugs and things out of my controll, but these are not children they are 1/2 grown women who are killing themselves with bad things, and it doesn’t just effect them it effects all of us in all ways of life.

The drugs finally caught up with her. She has been trouble for a longtime and now everybody sees how she really is. But she will play it off and like she told the police excuses she will tell everybody else excuses also.

  17. Know the law on January 14th, 2013 2:15 pm

    To woody…

Yea it’s an “excuse” ! Those deputies are just out to get everyone!

    Florida statute

    316.221 Taillamps

Either a taillamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration plate and render it clearly legible from a distance of 50 feet to the rear. Any taillamp or taillamps, together with any separate lamp or lamps for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be so wired as to be lighted whenever the headlamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lighted. Dump trucks and vehicles having dump bodies are exempt from the requirements of this subsection.
    (3) A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving violation as provided in chapter 318.

  18. Patriot on January 14th, 2013 1:37 pm

    Woody,
Any excuse?? It’s a violation of the law. More importantly, it lead to the arrest of a meth addict, and took meth off the street. Meth that may have found its way to your children.
What part of this do you have a problem with?

  19. Sbrown on January 14th, 2013 1:13 pm

We love you Keisha hang in there.

  20. cigarette case on January 14th, 2013 12:06 pm

So does anyone have a cigarette I can bum from you. Oh btw just give me your pack cause I won’t open it. I don’t smoke “cigarettes”.

  21. woody on January 14th, 2013 10:40 am

The old no tag light stop, these deputies use it as an excuse to stop anyone.

  22. Jim W on January 14th, 2013 10:37 am

Another fine example of what this drug does to our society. “The chosen cancer of life” Is destroying life as we knew it and our loved ones.

  23. whoevershegititnfrom on January 14th, 2013 9:43 am

Wow look at her face. Who ever she got the drugs from better Lol out because if she would throw her cousin under the bus then you are definently getting ratted on.

  24. Just me on January 14th, 2013 8:20 am

At 429SCJ… if you read the story the woman is from Brewton and was arrested in Century.

  25. 429SCJ on January 14th, 2013 6:11 am

I like the part about the stolen shotgun, handed down in the Odom family for years.

Famaily legacies and family traditions, alive and well in Century.

  26. David Huie Green on January 14th, 2013 5:39 am

    REGARDING:
“had been reported stolen out of Harris County, Georgia, in 1985. Odom was not charged in connection with the weapon theft because she was not born until 1986.”

Yep, you gotta admit she’s got a pretty solid alibi on that count. Couldn’t have been there since she wasn’t anywhere at the time.

    David for calendars

  27. BD on January 14th, 2013 5:38 am

she was using it for medicinal purposes officer…… Nothing like throwing your cousin under a bus eh? We’ll read about that bust later today! lol

  28. Know her on January 14th, 2013 3:56 am

Wow how crazy I bet her cousin doesn’t let her borrow anything anymore. And then to try to blame it on her and she wasn’t even there. Stand up and take responsibilities for your own actions. Typical meth case. Look at all those bumps on her face.
