Husband, Wife Killed In Traffic Accident Just Off “W’ Street

A husband and wife were killed in a traffic crash involving a single vehicle off W Street this afternoon.
The accident happened about 1:30p.m. on Massachusetts Avenue at Montclair Road, near the Brent Athletic Park. The Florida Highway Patrol said driver 71-year old Elton L. Burkett and 68-year od Nellene H. Burkett, both of Pensacola, were pronounced deceased at the scene byEscambia County EMS.
Elton Burkett was westbound on Massachusetts Avenue when he drifted off the roadway and collided with a tree. According to Escambia Fire Rescue personnel that witnessed the crash, he took no evasive action. Firefighters were on the scene within seconds and begin to administer CPR to both occupants.
The accident remains under investigation by the FHP.

Wow! So sad to hear of this tragedy 3 years later. I worked with Nellene at Roche Biomedical / LabCorp back in the 80’s and 90’s. I remember her and her husband to be very nice people. Prayers for peace and comfort to the Burkett family.

Very Sad, but yes, i am glad they went together; however reagrdless i am very sure it is still extremly difficult. Prayers for their families!!

knew this fine couple back when I was in middle school….they will be truly missed by so many people….I am thankful that at least we can rest assured that they are now in the arms of our Heavenly Father
