Trial Delayed For Former Flomaton High Custodian That Found Band Director’s Gun

December 12, 2012

The case has been continued against a Flomaton High School custodian accused of wrongdoing in connection with finding a gun in the school band director’s belongings.

Rita Bell Folmar was set for trial this week on an ethics charge and theft of property; she will be back in court in January.

Last May,  Folmar reported to school officials that she had found a handgun inside a closed bag in then band director John Lambert’s locked band room office. Lambert and the band were on a school sponsored trip to Atlanta at the time of the discovery.

Folmar was accused of taking cash from Lambert’s bag and an ethics violation for using her position for personal financial gain for using her custodian’s key to access Lambert’s personal property.

Shortly after the gun was found, Lambert first submitted his resignation, but then rescinded it. He was later terminated by the Escambia County (Ala.) School Board in July.

You know, if some teachers were allowed to posess, legally possess handguns, properly concealed from childrens reach, for the purpose of PROTECTION, maybe things like yesterdays CT tragedy wouldn’t happen. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. There is no doubt in my mind if I am in reach of a weapon and my children or family are in harms way of an evil person, my guns are my protection. Killing people and violence is by no means acceptable to me, but protecting yourself and innocent people and having to use violence as protection is legitamite in my opinion. I know this has nothing to do really with this story but just a thought that crossed my mind with regards to a teacher in possession of a gun at school.
