Century Teen Hit By Van
December 18, 2012
A Century teen was hit by a van as he tried to cross a busy street in Pensacola Monday afternoon.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 18-year old Ryan Wade Qualls Stephens was standing in the driveway of a Whataburger restaurant at Fairfield Drive and Pace Boulevard when he tried to run across the street without using a crosswalk.
He was struck by a full size Chevrolet passenger van driven by 43-year old Thearthur Tyron Thomas of Pensacola.
Stephens was transported to Baptist Hospital with minor injuries. He was cited by the FHP for failing to cross in a crosswalk.

im the guy who got hit im ok broke my nose got stitches and cracked a few vertebrae in my back
I am also thankful that this young man is okay and only suffered minor injuries.
I was sitting in a car in the parking lot of a near by business in this particular area last week and had noticed that there is a LOT of foot traffic, maybe because it’s near the bus depot? I remember thinking to myself that they need to build one of those overhead crossings for people to navigate back and forth between the restaurants and the shopping center there. Just a suggestion…but I would like to urge the “powers that be” to sit and observe this area and see what I’m talking about. The city officials need to make certain areas in cities that have a good amount of foot traffic, more people friendly and maybe accidents like these can be avoided.
Sorry, I did read the story wrong, I mistook where the boy lived for where the accident happened. I pray for the boys speedy recovery wherever it happened.
18 year old is fine, probably feels stupid but just has some minor injuries. Thank goodness.
If you actually read the story and paid attention, it clearly states that he crossed the road at Whataburger on Fairfield Dr near Pace Blvd in Pensacola.
it says he lived in Century. The crosswalk is in Pensacola.
he wasn’t in century when he got hit… he was in pensacola.
Some of you guys need to learn how to read, it happened on fairfield dr . not century. Anyway I’am praying for the boy and his Mother .
It’s hard to find a marked crosswalk in century……..BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE!!!
Well… a friend of mine was struck by an Explorer while he was IN a crosswalk in broad daylight. The person who hit him “didn’t see him”.
So it goes both ways. Dumb moves – darting into traffic, distracted drivers.
Yea, those pesky crosswalks are always causing problems in Century. By the way, just how many marked crosswalks are there in Century for getting across US 29?
Getting across that street is bad when you are in a crosswalk, never mind just trying to run across. Cars are faster. Sorry he was hurt, hope he will be OK.
…im glad he is ok…im he got cited…im surprised this doesnt happen more often with kids walking in the middle of the residential streets…or not using crosswalks…
