Couple Charged With Handcuffing, Beating Child

November 16, 2012

Two Escambia County residents have been charged with restraining a child with handcuffs and beating her with a bat.

After school resource officers learned of a possible child abuse victim from other students, Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to do a welfare check on the child. The child was found to have visible injuries and told deputies that 41-year old Roscoe Daniels had placed washcloths on her wrists and then metal handcuffs. The victim said Daniels then blindfold her and struck her on the arm with a small wooden bat. Deputies said 36-year old Latanya Gee also restrained the victim and hit her with the small bat.

The victim was placed into the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Daniels and Gee were charged with false imprisonment of a child, aggravated abuse and cruelty toward a child. Daniels also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both were booked into the Escambia County Jail without bond.

I certainly HOPE and PRAY this chilkd is NEVER back in the custody of these 2 animals…and I hope they get what’s coming to them! Some people don’t ever need to have children, but it’s starnge to me, the ones that want them and will love and care for them, can’t have them and 2 idiots like this can…

“You can only imagine what would happen if there was an infant in their care.”

She was once an infant in their care, I am quite sure this was not the first time something like this has happened, I hope the girl gets therapy/counseling that she will need to help her heal.

Glad they did something. I had a family member with a child that hands were tied behind his back with a rope at age four because he picked his nose. The man was reported to Children and Family by the parent of the child. Thank God a fire did not start in the house when the child was in bed with hands tied behind his back. The family was later told this social worker had never removed a child from a home. I hope the system has improved in the last five years.

As a kid I got my butt whipped, but my folks never went that far. There is never a reason to abuse a child!!! I hope they get the max.

My gosh, they need to be handcuffed themselves (without washclothes being used might I add), blindfolded and beatened with a baseball bat and maybe they will think twice about ever hitting another child again. Scum bags!

@Lawful Citizen perhaps the whacks with the bat should have been padded too? I think Mike O may have something there,,,,just sayin

Thankful for the other children who were willing to tell someone when they knew their friend/classmate was in this type of situation. So often it is never reported. This childs friends, the school and the deputies involved may have saved this childs life and it all began by other children being brave enough to tell someone.

This is sickening, I pray that this child is able to heal and not grow up to be abusive. They both deserve what ever time they get and are never to have children or have children in their care again.

@ Mike O ….. the bath cloth around the wrist is to try and avoid the signs of abuse showing, If the child had struggled then without the there would be visible cuts, scars, and signs of struggle. But with the clothes it protect the wrist for showing abuse. IJS

THERE SHOULD BE A SPECIAL INFERNO IN HELL FOR MONSTERS WHO ABUSE CHILDREN!!!

    @ Freda

Im pretty sure he wasnt ‘padding’ the wrists. Its sounds to me like the child was too small for the handcuffs, and by putting a washcloth around the wrists, it made the wrists thicker and able to be bound withy the cuffs. These people are low lifes, and will be dealt with. Bubba and Bubbette will take good care of them.

This is absolutely ridicolous! How could you do a child like that. I hope that this child will be heal mentally and physically from this type of abuse. I am like really what could this child have done so bad that a bat had to come involved. If this happened to a child of age. You can only imagine what would happen if there was an infant in their care.

This is where we need a bat for a bat!

How nice that he padded the handcuffs. (not) No child deserves to be treated like this.
