Theodore “Ted” Pospiech, Jr.

Theodore “Ted” Pospiech, Jr. USN Ret., 78, passed away October 12, 2012, at Jay Hospital after an extended illness. Ted became the eighth child of Theodore and Felixa Pospiech on October 3, 1934 in Johnson City, NY.

He is preceded in death by his son, James Edward “Jimmy” Pospiech; brothers, Frank Prospect, Joe Prospect, Walter Prospect and Edmund Prospect; sisters, Jenny Pospiech and Mary Demonovich.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Magaha Pospiech; daughter, Janet Pospiech, of Jay; and sister, Dorothy Pospiech of Binghamton, New York; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1952 he began a 20 year military career. During this time he served as an aviation mechanic, in research and development of safety equipment and as an instructor, among other assignments. During his tenure he was stationed in Sanford and Pensacola, Florida; Sunnyvale, California; Albany, Georgia; Memphis, Tennessee; and Adak, Alaska. He remained a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for many years. Jean Magaha of Jay, Florida became his wife in 1956; they met while he was stationed in Pensacola, Florida. The Pospiech family moved to Jay upon his retirement. Ted began his 20 career with Exxon USA shortly thereafter. He was an active member of the Exxon-Mobil Retirees Association enjoying the camaraderie and friendships continued from his career. He most enjoyed bible study, teaching Sunday school and training union classes, and leading the music at Pine Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a member for over 40 years.

Throughout his lifetime he enjoyed traveling with his family and often with friends to visit family, historic points of interest and theme parks. Even though he derived enjoyment from almost everything he did, gardening and fishing were among his favorites. The world was an open book to him and he took it with relish, always learning, studying and teaching, which gave him and his family many happy shared memories. He was talented with woodworking and enjoyed restoring antiques for friends and family members. His talent as a ‘handyman’ was well known, from installing fans and water lines, to repairing appliances and fencing, or building a desired piece of furniture. His ability and desire to help others with his practical talents allowed him to show his affection for those he assisted, and to take pride in a job well done. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, he truly made the world a better place with his easy smile, quick humor, generosity and boundless love. He will be greatly missed.

The Family expresses their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Jeffery Kelly, the staff of Jay Hospital, Dr. James Adams and staff, and Dr. German Herrera and staff for all of their care, kindness, guidance and patience.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m., Monday, October 15, 2012, with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral home.

Interment services will take place at Cold Water Cemetery in Milton, with full military honors.

    I am so sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. He and I worked together for many years. He was a hard worker and a great guy. We joked a lot, shared lots of Pollack jokes. Ted loved the jokes. I would have attended the wake and/or funeral if I had known about it. Learned of his passing just minutes ago. Ted will be missed by all of us and some of us will see him again. Please be ready to join Ted when your time comes.

    Sadden to hear about Ted checking out, enjoyed working and know Ted, met Ted back in 1975 when I when to work with Exxon and we shared some great times working together on compressors & pumps, may he RIP.
    Ted, tell teveryone HI for me up there!

    Ted where did the time go? I worked with Ted for many years. He was a great guy. I will miss you as will many others.
