    Alumni,

    1. So,who is this savior of a coach that you think could turn Tate into a winning program?

    2. Tate has gone through several coaches over the last decade. Ever think the common denominator may be the issue? (Common denominator = lack of talented players comparatively to their competition) I’m not saying the kids don’t try or that they are not athletes, I just don’t see how people think they can compete with the schools who have a much better talent pool to select players from.

    Pat,

Let me keep this simple for you. I can’t do any thing about the situation at Tate and niether can you. I am simply speaking of the effects its has on the kids, school, and community when this type of thing is happening in the football program. At any school if there is a winning football program it develops enough revenue within the school to help pay for a lot of things not talked about in papers such as this one and other sports at the school…..that is why it is important to hire the best coach to help the entire athletic program…..soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, golf,…

Unless you and I pool our money together and donate it to the school there will be financial struggles each department will face. Some parents can’t afford to let their child participate in school events, therefore if there’s enough money to help with these unfortunate situations thats when it becomes important to have the best coach in place…..

    Alumni,
Someone has to lose. If Tate wants to win, how about being better than their competition. They are playing football in an area that focuses on baseball. They are going up against teams that have players who have been a part of winning programs since they were in peewee. Their main feeder schools, Ransom, Brown Barge, and Beulah Academy of Science, struggle to win games in basketball due to lack of talent. I’m not saying they don’t have talent, it’s just they’re not as talented as their competition.
When they get to Tate, nothing has changed. There is just not enough athletes to truly compete with the programs of Pine Forest, West Tech, and PHS as far as football is concerned.
However, they do have athletic programs that are seeing success such as baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball.
While these are not football, these would be something the community could focus on rallying around. If you truly cared about these kids, maybe you’d try to find a way to help, instead of blaming the administration.

    Pat,

I am not judging a principal by who he hires as a football coach, but if you think for one minute that this type of year in year out of continual embarrassment on Friday night does the schools overall moral any good it doesn’t…there is nothing wrong with other quality vales he may posses to coincide with a good Football team to help the moral of the community and the school. Having a good football team certainly is not what defines us but striving to be the best in everything we do does show the character of who we really are.

Those Jaguars of West Florida done did it again! Eight and 0 !

To alumni—To hear you talk, the purpose of a High School is to support a football team. Is that the only criteria to judge a principle (sic) by?

  8. alumni on October 27th, 2012 9:27 am

    Dear Mr Thomas,

Please give Mr Shackle a job downtown over the winter so the next Principle at Tate perhaps would care enough to go find a coach that will give these boys/parents what they deserve.

The entire community has given up on this current Principle/Football coaching staff. I hear it everywhere I go. People have even quit wearing Tate Football paraphernalia in public….I think I saw some at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago and at waterfront mission.

If you think you played inspired Football against Godby last night let me tell you this….everyone that had a white jersey on played!!!!!

You’ll finish the season with a win next week against Washington in which the seniors desperately need, but don’t let that fool you they are a very sad football team also. You’ll be 1-23 after that. That’s the worst record in the state over a 2 year period!!!!!! Someone bring the Horse when you leave………

For tonight, we don’t want to overlook a 1-7 Vernon squad that’s coming off a huge loss last week to Graceville, nor do we want to look ahead to Baker right now and have a let down there in two weeks. However, it is about time to take a peek at the 1A districts to our east to see which teams might become playoff contenders.

The Chiefs will own the District 1 crown outright by simply beating the Baker Gators on Nov. 2. With that, Northview will host the first play-off game against the District 2 runner-up. Freeport will likely be the District 1 runner-up and will likely play Graceville in a few weeks.

At the moment it appears that Cottondale will be the District 2 runner-up, and leading District 2-1A is Graceville with a 3-0 district record. This Friday night Graceville will be calling on Jay. I predict that Graceville will break out the Irish shillelaghs as Jay is given an old fashioned whoop’n; one that will likely be heard all the way west over here across the river.

Districts 3 and 4 make up Region 2. Holmes County is currently in the driver’s seat in 3-1A and needs only to win out to capture the district championship. The runner-up will likely be Bozeman. Chipley, however, is still lurking around at 4-3 and 1-1 in district play, and it’s licking its chops for the front runners to stumble before the end of the regular season. If they do in the right order, Chipley can back its way into the play-off picture.

For the other half of Region 2, District 4’s leader is Liberty County at 3-0 in district play. Liberty County controls its own destiny by winning out. Second place in this district is likely to be Port St. Joe, but only time will tell how this district will play out with Blountstown still hanging round about.

    Here’s the panhandle’s 1A schedule for tonight:

    Wewahitchka at Bozeman
    Franklin County at Blountstown
Port St. Joe at West Gadsden
    Freeport at Chipley
    Liberty County at South Walton
    Graceville at Jay
    Sneads at Cottondale
Baker is Idle with Northview next week
Holmes County is Idle with Chipley next week

That’s it for now Chiefs Fans as I try to keep everyone up to speed on the developing playoff picture. Hope to see y’all here tonight for homecoming and GO CHIEFS!!!
