Mother, Son Charged With Molino Indoor Marijuana Grow Operation

October 30, 2012

A mother and son have been arrested in connection with a hydroponic marijuana growing operation raided earlier this month in Molino.

Michael James Hamilton, 45, and his mother, 63-year old Ora Jean Hart, were both charged with marijuana production and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On October 17, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit served a search warrant at 7781 Wesley Circle in Molino. Investigators reported finding 11 marijuana plants with a street value of $22,000 growing inside a garage and a separate shed behind the residence. Deputies also reported finding numerous lights and other equipment used to grow the plants indoors, along with numerous marijuana leaves, seeds and buds.

“There is no reason to lie; I grow the marijuana plants because I have glaucoma,” Hart told investigators, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report. Hamilton told deputies he has been smoking marijuana for about 20 years, and he learned to grow the plants from the internet, the report states.

Both Hamilton and Hart told deputies that the plants they found were the second batch they had grown. She said she orders the marijuana seeds through the mail.

    Family business… very funny.
I wonder if it kept him from getting mixed up with the questionable sorts?

I agree Jimbo, pot would be worth little if it were legal. I have grown to suspect that part of the reason for keeping pot illegal is because of all the money being made on it. I suspect that if pot were legalized that there would be a major backlash from the Mexican cartels, possibly even violence toward legislators. They kill politicians and police in Mexico on a regular basis. I doubt if those two will see more than probation which will require them to pay monthly fee$. The Cartels are becomming more brazen in the US and Atty Gen Eric Holder seems disinterested in stopping them? I remember when I was a boy it was bootleg whiskey today pot is the cottage industry. I would imagine these same discussions will be taking place a thousand years from now because America seems unable to progress with the rest of the world. It is just hard put sense to it. I dont care about smoking it but it would be nice to see some of those enormous profits. We need those troops in Syria Iraq and Iran let the border police deal with the cartels.

“I wanted my son to work with me in a family business so that I could keep an eye on him. I was afraid he might fall in with the wrong crowd..”

    That was good.

    CONSIDERING:
” there are people who shouldn’t vote.”

Probably true but most likely it is the ones who think others shouldn’t be allowed.

    David for universal franchise
and hope the weirdoes cancel each other out

@ Duke. This is alot like Middle Eastern oil. If we did’nt have to buy it from them, how cheap would it be then… What I mean is, if someone (not me) could legally possess 1 or 2 plants, that would put all those professional cultivators out of business. We’re fighting a losing battle on the drug war, but we could win it if we put troops on our borders. I certainly believe that if our powers that be WANTED to win the war on drugs, we’d have already won it. As another poster mentioned though, there’s no way to tax it if it’s “home grown”… unless there was a license required to grow it. Sheesh…

I confess, officer…I have glaucoma and a bad social anxiety disorder. My therapist says if I sell what I can’t smoke, it will help me socialize.

    Not buying it?

OK, how about this…I wanted my son to work with me in a family business so that I could keep an eye on him. I was afraid he might fall in with the wrong crowd.

DHG for president : that tells me there are people who shouldn’t vote.

is legal on a state level, not a federal level. in specific states such as cali <3

Jimbo I agree with you on the moral implications but at $20. a gram and 1000 grams in a kilogram. It certainly is a lot more profitable than Amway, hunting clubs and smoker wood? I agree with you though as there is nothing better at the end of the day than a dollar earned through hard honest work and the sweat of one’s brow.

David Huie Green for president. I love all of your comments and learn a thing or two by reading them.

    REGARDING:
“legalized in some states but not here”

Actually, it is not legal in any state.

There are states which permit its use but that only pertains to state law. Federal law forbids it and has effect in every state and territory of the USA. The federal law is authorized by an international treaty. Use is openly practiced because the President said he would not enforce the treaty or federal law in those states.

The more honest thing would be to abrogate the treaty, as the President has power and moral obligation to do — especially since he admits to having indulged himself — but so far no go. Thus the hypocrisy continues.

    David for enforcing all laws
    or terminating them

Ms Hart needed $22,000 worth solely for her glaucoma?

  13. molino resident on October 30th, 2012 9:03 am

I want to smoosh Marsha and Dave Byrd’s comments together. And say agreed. When will y’all go after the people with the heavy drugs. Its like you gotta go after the east people.. lazy cops. Get up and go get some actual dealers not glaucoma patients

Looks like they had lots more than needed for personal use. Even though I believe it should be totally decriminalized, how will I know if my Doctor, my taxi driver, my airline pilot, the long haul trucker, or the kid in the lane next to me is not stoned out of their gord? Well, the commercial drivers, pilots, and boat captains are mandated to be in random drug programs. But…. what about everyone else?

  15. Jane on October 30th, 2012 8:45 am

To “huh” : yes Mendicino County makes lots of money off the legalized pot, but they have a high rate of shootings, murders and burgleries resulting from people stealing to buy it or trying to protect their plants. Either way it isn’t all it cracked up to be.

  16. Shoosh on October 30th, 2012 8:44 am

When convicted, then they are guilty of breaking the law…period! If you don’t like it, move to wherever the law is scued enough to allow it. Then you can get your brother’s cousin’s uncle’s sister’s buddy who is a doctor of lord knows what to prescribe it to you for your aching migraines which is probably based off of your constant complaining. ECSO did their job and got two law offenders’ attention which will hopefully deter others in the future.

  17. KAREN on October 30th, 2012 8:30 am

Illegal, is illegal. Quit complaining about the LO during their job. If you want it legalized, then go thru the political channels and have it changed.

  18. RC on October 30th, 2012 7:55 am

legalized in some states but not here cause we need to fine, fine, fine everyone and take all their money ! Ridiculous. Congratulations for finding growing plants that help some people. Lawd !

  19. Marsha on October 30th, 2012 7:51 am

Good job, ECSO… way to get these hardened criminal hoodlum gang member outlaws off the mean streets of Molino. I’m sure you’ll sleep better at night knowing this 63 year old woman is locked up! How many shootings occurred while you were arresting these people?

  20. Dave Byrd on October 30th, 2012 7:43 am

When will they go after the people who sell hardcore drugs and have been doing so for years. Campground area in North Escambia, the Sheriff’s office knows the location.

  21. Fairlane63 on October 30th, 2012 5:50 am

    Land of the free…

  22. huh on October 30th, 2012 12:30 am

Such a waste of tax payer money , its crazy that America across the board has not legalised it for medical use. Had he lived in California or some of the other states with more personal freedoms he would not be charged or jailed.
