Escambia Voters Receive Fraudulent Letter Questioning Citizenship

October 23, 2012

At least two Escambia County voters have received a letter questioning their citizenship that appears to be from David Stafford, but the supervisor of elections said the letter is in no way tied to the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office.

“We want voters to be aware that this mailing did not come from our office and that we have notified the Florida Department of State and the State Attorney’s office,” Stafford said. “We are committed to ensuring the integrity of elections in Escambia County and protecting the voting rights of our citizens. We will continue to monitor this serious situation and will cooperate fully with the investigating authorities.”

Any voter who receives such a letter is encouraged to retain the envelope and all contents, and notify the elections office at (850) 595-3900 to report it. The fraudulent letter does not include Stafford’s signature and states that voters must respond within 15 days with the appropriate citizenship information. The fraudulent letter in no way impacts a voter’s eligibility, Stafford said.

“a significant majority have gone to Republican voters, but not exclusively. We’ve got Democrats who received the letters, we’ve got independents.” From another news source. In other words both Dems and Repubs have gotten the letters.

fear tactics……hhmm..i was reading MANY of the vile tweets put out during the last debate…..unbelievable (not really) the amount of “chatter” about killng or assassinating romney- if he is elected…..FBI, apparently, are following up on these threatening, evil tweets- as they should! ..many ignorant people have even boasted (online) of planning to riot, if romney wins ….on the flip side, i havent heard or read anyone on the right side spewing threats towards obama- should he actually win this election…im sure that there are isolated incidences, but not to the degree of some of those on the left…..a different calibre, i suppose.

Don’t make accusations without proof. Show us evidence or give us a valid link that this is from the right.

@eeyore, when left-leaning politicians use fear mongering with wild claims directed at senior citizens that the GOP will take away for Medicare and leave you in the gutter with no medicine or they will push you over the cliff as depicted in a TV ad produced by Democrats, what kind of “control” is that? Answer: intimidation and fear tactics. Yet who is is that is robbing Medicare? Answer: Pres.Obama and his Democrats who created the “Affordable Care Act” known as Obamacare which takes $700 Million from Medicare in order to pay for Obamacare. Don’t believe me? Look it up yourself, if you have the courage to have your beliefs questioned. Have a nice day.

    Eeyore,

It’s Republican voters that are receiving these letters. In other words, this is a dirty trick of the political left.

I can’t directly speak on the two voters in escambia county but the connection so far has been (statewide)— republican, and have given to republican candidates from $10- $500

SO, the elephant in the room wants to know what the party affiliation were the people that received the intimidating letters? “may be subject to arrest, imprisonment, and/or other criminal sanctions”… I wonder what the punishment is for sending out the fraudulent letters?
