Cantonment’s Gee Willies Closes

October 2, 2012

A popular Cantonment convenience store is now closed. Gee Willies at 710 North Highway 29 shut down Saturday night.

Employees said they were informed of the closure last Wednesday. The store’s owner, the Janmarene Corp. of Cantonment, has not offered a public explanation for the closure, but the sign outside the store was updated Tuesday to state the store is closed for a remodel.

In additional to fuel and a full service convenience store, Gee Willies also operated a restaurant with home cooked meals, pizza, burgers, chicken and more. The store had been open for about four and a half years.

The person who wrote the one called non ethanol has no idea what they are talking about. There are a handful of stations here in town that do have non ethanol gas. The pump will say it in the form of a sticker of some kind. I have been in the fuels business locally for the last sixteen years so you can believe what I tell you.

I have personally owned and operated eight convience stores for years but now retired. the major oil companies DO NOT regulate the fuel prices. what they do is sell their surplus fuel without the additives that are sold to branded stores such as EXXON SHELL BP ETC.this fuel is sold to the independent stations as much of a discount as ten to fifteen cents a gallon. a branded station cannot compete with the independents with this difference in price. a station is typically charged 3.5 cents on the dollar to handle a credit card. this leaves very little margin profit for the dealer. as time goes on you will see more stations close due to the enviromental regulations imposed by the federal government. THIS IS A PLOT TO GET THE PRICE OF GAS UP TO A $5 or so price range. ITS A COMMIN

    >>>>>I herd that they could not compete. Being that they were not an independent station, Shell regulated their prices.
If they could compete with their gas prices, they might put raceway out of business. Will not buy raceway gas.

First off, I worked there at Gee Willies and we were an independent station, therefore Shell regulated our gas prices…sorry to lose my job, but have already found another one…just not ready to open their doors yet!

I knew it was just a matter if time, when they quit serving food at 2:00 in the afternoon. We finally had a nice store for gas and to get something good to eat and BAM IT’S GONE!

There is an iPhone app for Ethanol free gas with maps and locations. Just search for Ethanol free finder in iTunes. I use a store on Olive Rd near Old Palafox. 100% Gasoline for $4.25.

    Hey Bloodsworth,
I’ve got an ‘86 GMC Caballero and whenever something breaks on it, then I’ll call Skip at Parade; get him to tow me to his station and fix it again. He is honest, dependable and willing to go the extra mile to help a customer. Plus my old car runs better on the 89 octane pure gas.

The gas station just north of KFC in Atmore advertises Ethanol-free.

Hey Bill, skip is our brother-in-law! ;) So sorry to hear about this nice convenient store having to close it’s doors. If it was due to financial reasons, maybe another company with the funds to back it will open it back up real soon.

I wish you had explored why it closed.Gee Willies was a great place and keep it’s money in our community. It’s sad Cantonment is not able to keep a good business.

    Thank you Martin!

  19. Non Ethanol on October 2nd, 2012 8:13 am

Word to the wise. 100% non Ethanol gas is only available for purchase through a marina. The product advertised at local stations is not 100% ethanol free, but it does not meet the E15 requirements, which means the gas station can advertise it to be ethanol free by law.Now is it better than E15? Absolutely, but dont be tricked in to thinking that you are getting 100% pure gasoline eiether.

  20. EW on October 2nd, 2012 7:34 am

What will all those chickens do know? That station was a cash cow for them.

  21. bill on October 2nd, 2012 7:24 am

The Parade gas station at Jackson and New Warrington Road in Pensacola has pure gas. Say hello to the hard working mechanic, Skip.

  22. Jane on October 2nd, 2012 5:48 am

Anyone know where to get marine gas around here? Please, William, if you know please let us know!

  23. Michael on October 2nd, 2012 5:46 am

  26. CD on October 2nd, 2012 1:13 am

Hate to see them close. They had a good little restaurant and we bought our non-ethenol gas there.

  27. Boater on October 2nd, 2012 12:53 am

Dusty – Check other Shell stations in the Pensacola area. I believe they have the ethanol-free gas also.

  28. GC on October 2nd, 2012 12:40 am

Probably because they wouldn’t take Food Benefits. Thus cutting out 40% of the area residents who refused to pay cash for items they could buy at the Grocery Outlet.

  29. Punkin at al on October 2nd, 2012 12:30 am

I really liked this station. I wonder why they would have shut it down when they were really doing good, or I thought they were. I really liked their food too, it was great.

  30. dusty on October 2nd, 2012 12:19 am
