A manhunt is underway for a murder suspect and convicted sex offender that escaped Saturday.

Cedric Jerome Floyd escaped from the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton about 10:15 Saturday morning.

He was awaiting trial for the January 2, 2012, murder of Tina Roshell Jones, 43, inside her 5th Avenue residence in Atmore. Floyd is also a registered sex offender, convicted in 2003 in Escambia County, Ala., of first degree rape and first degree attempted sodomy on a 14-year old female.

He is described as being black male, six-foot tall, 220 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Floyd was last seen wearing a grey sweatsuit with a white undershirt and a black stocking type hat.

Anyone with information about Floyd’s whereabouts is asked to call the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office at (251) 809-0741, your local law enforcement agency or 911.

Jones, the victim, called 911 at 12:46 Sunday morning, January 2 to report that Floyd was breaking into her home. Two minutes later, Atmore Police officers arrived and found Jones lying in the floor of the home with what appeared to be several gunshot wounds, according to Atmore Police. She was transported to Atmore Community Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

“Witnesses at the scene said they were asleep, but were waken by Floyd demanding keys to a vehicle.  After several moments, Floyd fled the scene on foot,” said Jason Dean, Atmore Police chief, said shortly after the crime.

“While officers were at the residence, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Cedric Jerome Floyd, 28 years of age,  the boyfriend of Jones, stating he wanted to turn himself in.  Deputies responded to Freemanville Drive where Floyd met officers.  Floyd was then taken into custody,” said Dean.

Police said Floyd made forcible entry into the home through Jones’ bedroom window in the rear of the home.

It was kind of crazy yesterday with all the squad cars riding through. About 5 cars were checking every car that went by down by the house at the railroad track. Hopefully Cedric will get caught soon and he will pay for murdering my cousin.

  12. T-REX on October 28th, 2012 9:38 am

We want to be tough on crime in Alabama, but we keep cutting back on law enforcement agencies and still want them to provide the same services. It talk is cheap!

  13. 429SCJ on October 28th, 2012 9:00 am

I wish I were a CO as my late Great Uncle Samuel was up at Fountain. Mr Floyd’s days of running and full motor function would come to an end.

  14. concerned on October 28th, 2012 12:56 am

FYI… THE INMATES ARE ALLOWED tO BUY SWEAT SUITS TO WEAR DUE tO THE COLDNESS OR WHATEVER… THE JAIL GIVES THEM ONE ORANGE JUMP SUITE… NOW WORD OF MOUTH IS THE DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE WAS OPEN AND HIS CELL WAS NOT LOCKED SO HE CONVIENTLY WALKED RAN wHAT EVER HE MAY HAVE DONE… HE GOT 0UT AND AWAY… THE POINT OF tHE MATTER IS SOMEONE WASNT ON THEIR JOB. OR MAYBE THEY JUST wAS…

  15. questioning on October 27th, 2012 11:50 pm

I do think our law enforcement is great. I just want this man caught. We have our children around here. He knows he is getting life so whats it to him to hurt someone else. Locking up tight tonight. Brewton keep some type of protection in arms reach. I know I am !

  16. Jacob on October 27th, 2012 9:55 pm

Wrong again Jimbo, Ced isn’t stupid, he probably had someone waiting on him as soon as he got outside.

  17. Jimbo on October 27th, 2012 9:46 pm

I highly doubt this animal’s having a “good” evening. It’s COLD out there.

  18. T2 on October 27th, 2012 9:46 pm

Just for this reason, I think all inmates should wear florescent colors such as pink or yellow.

  19. People are starving on October 27th, 2012 8:51 pm

    @Brewton resident – thank you!!

People just have no idea what these men
and women do everyday to serve and pro-
tect. It is so very easy to sit back and make
harsh statements. If only we could walk in
their shoes? I bet we might not be so
quick to judge? Law enforcement and
military are the only two carriers I can think
of where one might have to take a bullet.
I sure don’t want to take a bullet, do you
judgers?? God Bless our law enforcement!

  20. Chains on October 27th, 2012 8:40 pm

As far as what this waste of my FRESH air rapiest was wearing orange or grey he should have been wear the chains on his feet waist and wrist.. Then he could have been found face down unable to walk… Dept of defense is so worried of inmates being treated right they forgot about their victims…. As for their rights to anything and everything I work hard for everyday they lost their RIGHTS when the broke the law …. Law better find this jerk before that 14 years family does…….!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Brewton Resident on October 27th, 2012 7:25 pm

    @ People are Starving- AMEN!!

How about we stop JUDGING how these men & women are doing their job & pray that they all come home to their families safe!! So many jump to judge but wouldnt dare jump into the situations officers face everyday to provide for their families!!

  22. Lol on October 27th, 2012 6:52 pm

Well the “Toys” really done there job Today didn’t they?
They really helped put this dangerous man back behind bars!!!
Oh, he’s not back behind bars is he?
i’ll stick with my past comments!!!

  23. Geneva Parish on October 27th, 2012 5:57 pm

Why was he able to get out of the jail in the first place after he raped the 14yr old. He should never have been out to be able to murder someone. There is something wrong with the laws and it is all bad,.

  24. People are starving on October 27th, 2012 5:48 pm

    @lol!
First of all, it’s hating on “anyone”!
The ” toys ” you keep referring to were
zero cost to the fine citizens of Escambia
County!! If you would take the time to read
about these “toys” you might understand
what you are talkin about! The “toys” are
used to look for drugs, Alzheimer’s patients
search and rescue, last but not least
    escapies.

As you can see “lol” these “toys” serve a
very important purpose to our county?
I have always been told, you can’t argue
with an idiot! So with that being said, I
hope and pray you never need Gover,
the ECSO.. and their “toys” in a emergency
I’m not saying you are a hater, just uneducated.

  25. BOGIAN on October 27th, 2012 5:23 pm

So old boy turns himself in for shooting his old lady and we still need to have a trial? Sounds reasonable.

  26. Lol on October 27th, 2012 5:00 pm

    @People are starving
I’m not hating on no one, I just stated a fact!!!
Instead of Grover saving a few penny’s by not buying orange sweat suits so that if they do escape they will be seen Better. He doesn’t mind spending lots of money on airplane fuel for him and his investergaters to PLAY around, four wheelers and other toys!!! Give a little more to the jail and their staff to keep these kind of folks where they belong. No hate, just facts and reality

  27. Uh huh on October 27th, 2012 4:48 pm

This man is also a convicted sex offender.

  28. William on October 27th, 2012 4:46 pm

    >>>He should have already been in jail. Not in a detention center. How did he get out?

The jail in Escambia County, Alabama, is named the Escambia County Detention Center. It is a jail.

  29. littledog on October 27th, 2012 4:40 pm

They need to hurry up and catch him. He should have already been in jail. Not in a detention center. How did he get out?

  30. baebae on October 27th, 2012 4:24 pm

You dont have to be convicted to be a murderer…he turned himself in remember ?
I dont think he would do that if he were innocent…would you ?

  31. Rick on October 27th, 2012 4:06 pm

Let’s try to remember this man is awaiting trial, he has not been convicted of anything.
That is why he was in a detention facility. He is being detained for trial.

  32. kathy on October 27th, 2012 3:35 pm

Thats Alabama for ya, I mean really a murder. they need to pick up there speed and watch what the hick s going on .he should have been in lock up and cuffs on hands and chains on his legs.hopefully they will catch him soon,

  33. baebae on October 27th, 2012 2:45 pm

Whatever happened to the good ol BLACK N WHITE STRIPES…no doubt who their tailor was when you saw those…..oh thats right that was degrading to them…so we went with colored suits…we have gotten kinder and gentler haven’t we…??

  34. People are starving on October 27th, 2012 2:37 pm

If you people would quit bashing!
I can’t believe you are worried about
his clothing! The Sheriff does a excellent
    Job!
Tell me just one person that has been hurt
by a very few escaped inmate?? It happens
at any jail, even if YOU were in charge! So
    quit the hating!

  35. Lol on October 27th, 2012 2:17 pm

The grey must be cheaper than the orange!!! Never mind public safety.. They need to keep public safety Number One and not worry about all the Toys the sheriff keeps getting!!!

  36. lisa on October 27th, 2012 2:03 pm

@ric dey can wear grey sweatsuits gotta be grey

  37. wondering on October 27th, 2012 2:01 pm

Why was he in a “detention center” and not placed in a locked down security jail? ESPECIALLY since he is a murder suspect……UGH!!!!

  38. wow on October 27th, 2012 1:57 pm

It’s funny how youre questioning what he was wearing. If you actually knew anything about the escambia county detention center, you would know the inmates are allowed to wear grey sweatsuits.

  39. Jackie on October 27th, 2012 1:32 pm

You guys need to find him , hes probaly going to go after her kids

  40. rlc on October 27th, 2012 1:17 pm

and he was wearing a gray sweat suit instead of jail issued clothing?? sounds like the sheriff and his employees have some explaining to do

  41. Really!!!! on October 27th, 2012 1:05 pm

Im wondering the same thing, how in hell this man escaped!!!!!!

  42. wondering on October 27th, 2012 12:51 pm
