Arrest Made After Stabbing At Century Bar

October 1, 2012

A Flomaton man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing Sunday night inside a Century bar.

The stabbing happened about 9:18 p.m. at Odom’s Bar on North Century Boulevard at the Alabama state line. The black male victim was reportedly stabbed in the back at least two times. He was transported by ambulance to Jay Hospital in serious condition. His name has not been released.

The suspect, identified as 44-year old Johnnie Brittingham,  fled the area in a vehicle driven by another white male.  As deputies were continuing their investigation, Brittingham returned to the bar to retrieve his vehicle. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Brittingham continued to a residence in Alabama about 300 yards from the bar.

The Flomaton Police Department and the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office responded to assist. Brittingham was taken into custody by Alabama authorities on an outstanding failure to appear warrant from an Escambia County, Ala., trespassing case.

Brittingham is being held without bond in the Escambia County (Ala.) Detention Center in Brewton. He will be extradited to Florida to face charges related to the stabbing.

Witnesses said Brittingham and the victim were in an altercation earlier in the evening.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene of the stabbing seconds after it was reported; deputies were nearby on the perimeter of a manhunt following the armed robbery of a convenience store about a block away. There was no indication that the two crimes were related.  Read more about the robbery by clicking here.

I do believe that Odom’s is a very Oriential Bar…..and The owners do hav cameras and they are the best ppl ever with a great team …..waitress..bartenders…doormen…and bouncers….I use to work for this bar and IK first Hand they DO NOT TOLERATE things like this in their establishment……and like everyone says …ppl enter anywhere and do stupid crap …..so its not the Owners fault…its the man that done the WRONG DOINGS!!

Excellent! Good to know the establishment had the video footage to help the authorities catch the guy and arrest him. My comment was clearly not blaming the owners of the establishment but simply agreeing with another statement and stating my feelings regarding the incident more so regarding the individual that did the stabbing!!

I must agree with most of the people.. I go to Odoms on occasion to shoot some pool with my buddies.. There is hardly ever any trouble there but like any bar/club we know that an eventual fight is going to happen.

We don’t blame the owners and they do a very good job of trying to defuse any altercation before it gets out of hand.

I hope those involved are punished to the fullest extent of the Law.

Like stated before there are cameras, the footage has been turned over to officials. I used to work there, and enjoyed working there. The owners are very concerned for their employees as well as patrons, and have worked hard to try and control bad behavior to the best of their ability. People will always be stupid and not care about the safety or reputation of others, let alone themselves. Don’t blame the bar or the owners. or even the town of Century, it’s people with no respect for themselves or others. Whether alcohol was involved is not the main issue. There are several people that come into the bar that don’t even drink, they just come to socialize because there is NOTHING else to do in Century. Maybe if the city would help establish more family friendly establishments in the area it would help some, but people that are going to act a fool, will do it anywhere, anytime.

Really hate that something like this happened especially when the owners of this bar has built a reputation for zero tolerance for ignorant behaviors. im sure the owners will release any and all information to punish the people involved. This kind of incident could have happened anywhere…

That’s Bull, if a owner wants cameras fine but they are not supposed to have them!!
If they did have cameras I’m sue the SO will get a warrent (so they can be used in court) and look at the tapes…

Having worked at Odom in the past I know for a fact that the owners do everything possible, to insure the safety of both there employees and the patrons. But as with ANY business that has its doors open to the public you will eventually have trouble walk thru those doors. Security cameras, doormen and barred list, help but can not replace basic morals or respect. Obviously the person that attacked the customer in Odoms has neither the morals not to attack and stab another human being or any respect for this business or its owners and employees.

Punishing the BAR would be like punishing Hardies when someone drove through it over the summer. GROW UP PEOPLE. How would you feel if you owned a place and were criticized for the actions of someone else.

    FYI Interesting
ALL tapes have been turned over to Law Enforcement.
This INCIDENT has NOTHING to do with this bar.
Civilized people don’t behave in this manner.
These people brought their issues into a business that had NOTHING to do with their wrong doings.
We also hope that they are punished!!!!

    I agree with crazy….
That bar is supposed to have cameras everywhere! Bad business I think if I owned it I would be watching every tape and help as much as possible! I sure hope they find out who did that and punish to the fullest extent! Coward would be the word for the man that did it! What ever happened to face to face and no weapons not to mention stabbing from BEHIND???? Scared he was going to get a whoopin put on him apparently!

These stabbings and shootings have been going on since there have been drinking establishments, though the shootings came along a few thousand years later than the stabbings..

A stabbing at a bar? A robbery at a convenience store nearby? Hmmmm, seems like a normal night in town.
