41st Year: Tate Showband Earns Bandmasters Superior Ratings

October 17, 2012

The tradition of excellence continued for the Tate High School Showband of the South last weekend at the Florida Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment at Ft. Walton Beach High School.

The band was adjudicated by a panel of expert judges in the areas of music, general effect, marching and maneuvering, and color guard. Under the leadership of Director Mike Philley and Associate Director Blake Garcia, the Tate Showband of the South received straight Superior ratings in all categories for the 41st consecutive year.

I played in the Tate School Band from 7th through 12th grades. Miss Sidorfsky was a wonderful band instructor. During my time in the band I played trombone and sousaphone. Wonderful memories of state competitions and superior ratings. Played at governor Agnews inauguration. Fun times. Thank you Dr. Sidorfsky.

Thank you for the compliments! We are blessed with great students and families to work with at Tate. The band has had great leadership and administrative support for decades and it shows in the pride and tradition of excellence that is still evident today!

There are several videos up on YouTube of this year’s show…in addition to others from the last few years. The channel is “showbandofsouth”. Go Aggies!

What a wonderful story about Tate’s band. I used to live near there and attended football games at Tate High School. The band has long been excellent and apparantly still is. Congratulations!

When is someone going to put this on youtube so we can all see it? I like watching all of Tates shows and seeing the changes through the years.

I miss shows like the 1980 and 1981 shows that showed the power of the band and the added attraction of the color guard.

Seems everthing has gone to this modern dance which doesn’t have the visual “in your face” attraction in years past.

Tate has alway had a grea program, and the legend continues.
