No Injuries In Walnut Hill School Bus Crash
September 20, 2012
There were no injuries in a school bus wreck in Walnut Hill Thursday afternoon.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 25-year old Todd Layne Schmidt of Walnut Hill pulled off Highway 97A near Arthur Brown Road and attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway into the path of a 2013 Escambia County School District bus driven by Tammy Johnson Pierce of Molino.
Schmidt, Pierce and the five Bratt Elementary School students on the bus were not injured.
Schmidt’s vehicle, a 1987 Suzuki SUV, was removed from the scene prior to the arrival of FHP. He was cited for an improper U-turn, and operating a vehicle that was not insured and registered, according to a crash report.
The bus sustained only minor damage to the front bumper and a crossing arm.

I’m glad Ms. Tammy and the kids are okay. We couldn’t ask for anyone better to keep the children safe.
Absolutely.
They really should do something with those sneaky school buses to make them easier to see!
@FLSTCI,
You are so right, maybe they could paint them a bright colorand add some flashy lights…… Wait a minute……
Glad noone was hurt and we should all pay more attention to our driving.
@FLSTCI,
Because being one of the largest and brightest colored vehicles on the road, with a strobe light on top, isn’t enough? I think people just need to pay attention to the road. I almost said pay attention to what they’re doing, but most people are doing something other than just driving when they’re behind the wheel. The good thing here is no one was hurt.
And honestly, hwy 97A is not the best place to try to pull a u-turn. Go to the next turn-off and then turn around. Certain times of the day the sun blinds you anyway.
They really need to do something with school buses to help them be seen.
glad todd and ms. tammy and the kids are all ok!!
