Deputy Injured In Rollover Wreck
September 5, 2012
An Escambia County Sheriff’s deputy was injured in a rollover accident Wednesday morning at the New Warrington Road overpass across Mobile Highway.
Deputy Melissa Scruggs, 33, was responding to an armed disturbance call. She was eastbound on New Warrington Road when she struck a guardrail that borders the roadway and traveled into the median. Her 2007 Crown Victoria then struck a bridge concrete barrier and traveled over it. The vehicle came to rest at the bottom of the overpass embankment adjacent to Mobile Highway.
First responders extricated Scruggs from her cruiser. She was transported to a local hospital where she remains in serious condition.
Scruggs has been with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for two and half years and is assigned to patrol.
No charges were filed in connection with the accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Godspeed you recovery Deputy, and thank you for your service.
There is just too much for one officer in a car responding to a call to do… That’s why in the old days they had 2 officers per car… one to drive and one to do the other stuff… We need to do better for the people in uniform… We all know we need more of them and need them to be safeas possible… My prayers are with her today…

Prayers going up! Lord send healing right now! Thank you all law enforcement officers for doing your job and putting your lives on the line.
Some folks may have issues with the way some deputies conduct themselves. Most of the time, their job is mundane and thankless.
But I sincerely believe most deputies will rush to put themselves in between a citizen and an armed assailant. That’s really when it counts.
Good luck, Deputy Scruggs.
Praying Officer Scruggs is okay.
Awww man I hope she’s okay :/ My heart wrenches reading this. Please be okay!
We don’t think about our officers running to numerous calls to helps us when it’s raining outside until they get in an accident. It’s ashame it takes an accident to get an officer recognized instead of the job they set out to do for us each n every day. Many prayers to her and her family. Good luck Deputy Scruggs.
Prayers are with all involved. Please keep us posted on any updates, her condition and names. i drove by it this AM, horrific accident
