US Rolls Out Illegal Immigrant Relief Program

August 16, 2012

Young illegal immigrants in the United States are lining up to register for a new program that could keep them from being deported.

The government’s so-called Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program took effect on Wednesday.

The program allows young people who were brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents to temporarily remain in the country, without fear of deportation, if they meet certain requirements.

Those requirements include being a student or serving in the military, and posing no criminal or security threat.

Also, applicants must be under the age of 31 and must have arrived in the U.S. before turning 16.

The Migration Policy Institute estimates as many as 1.8 million immigrants may be eligible. But group spokeswoman Michelle Mittelstadt said some potential applicants are worried about revealing their status.

“There also is a concern among some that if they come forward and identify themselves to the government as being here illegally and they have to provide things like their names and their address, that they are potentially exposing themselves and risking exposing themselves for deportation and removal down the road,” said Mittelstadt.

Opponents of the policy say it amounts to amnesty. Jack Martin of the Federation for American Immigration Reform also says program recipients could wind up taking jobs from U.S. citizens at a time when the economy has not fully recovered.

“That is a special issue of concern with an estimated 1.8 million individuals who may be receiving work permits at a time when we have many millions of Americans who are unemployed,” said Martin.

Illegal immigration is a controversial issue in the U.S. Some opponents say illegal immigration forces the government to spend money on social programs for aliens that otherwise could be used to help U.S. citizens.

I do not agree with this program, but the program should be put on the shoulders of our congress and senate. They are deserving of their 10% approval rating when through their total inaction these types of programs seep from the executive branch. In the absence of a working congressional branch, the executive branch is emboldened to do just about anything they choose. Where is our congress and senate, why no opposition? Oh yes, running for reelection, no time to do the job for which they were elected. In Nov, will the candidate for which you will cast your vote be upfront and get back to work?

    REGARDING:
“How could they possibly use these addresses to go after the adults? If you read the news, they usually all list the same address which generally turns out to be bogus anyway.”

Real easy, if the applicant gives bogus information, his request is denied. If the applicant gives correct information, the address of the parents is documented.

    AND
“Please, be careful when you say to “seal the border”. “

I’m so careful that I’ve never said it. I maintain people break out of maximum security prisons so they can certainly break INTO the United States.

How could they possibly use these addresses to go after the adults? If you read the news, they usually all list the same address which generally turns out to be bogus anyway. Please, be careful when you say to “seal the border”. Walls may keep people out, but they’re better at locking you in. My advice, keep hounding your elected officials, from county gov’t to federal gov’t, to do what you feel needs to be done. When they do not respond to your demands, fire them by voting them out. Remember, we are their bosses, they are our employees paid by our tax dollars. Your voice and vote do carry tremendous weight when used correctly.

Now to start a cruel rumor:

The REAL purpose of this policy is to get the children of illegal immigrants to sign up so they will have the addresses of the unprotected adults deported.

Actually I doubt that is the purpose, but it is easy to imagine someone using the information for that purpose.

Well said “Abe”! People on here always blame Obama for everything without actually doing research. I do have to say that I probably wont be voting in this election because I dont like either choice but it is refreshing to see that somebody still actually does research before they vote instead of just going off of what the hear or watch on fox news.

The threat of them taking American jobs is laughable coming from the very same party that makes it lucrative for US based companies to outsource jobs overseas.
We’ve lost more jobs and tax revenue to China than anyone can imagine due to companies like Bain Capital of Mr. Romney. They move in, loot the coffers, shutter the place and have the same product made in China for a fraction of the cost. On top of that they then hide the money in offshore accounts to keep from paying US taxes.

Back off 100 yards from the border 2 pair of barbed wire, 2 pair of stock wire fencing with a 300ft section down the middle, heavily salted with gravel mines. Warning signs in multiple laungages. SEALED, on the the next item on the agenda.

It’s another example of the utter lawlessness that goes on in this country. Obama rules like he is king. Congress was not consulted—this isn’t a law.

Illegal Immigrant serving in our military? Did I read that correctly? Was it a misprint? Really? If that is correct, am I not the only person who see’s the danger in that? What are they allowed to do if they serve in the military? Fly planes?

The 38th parallel that seperates North andSouth Korea is only 160 miles long much easier to control than the 1,969 miles of border between the US and Mexico in CA, AZ, NM, and TX.

America cannot continue to be the destination of every economic refugee in the world, we are at the point of becomming economic refugees ourselves.

If you do not believe a border can be sealed, visit the 38th parallel.
