Nine Mile Road Resurfacing Project Update

August 9, 2012

Work is continuing on a Nine Mile Road construction project in Escambia County.

Over the next month drivers can expect intermittent lane restrictions from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Perdido River Bridge and Pine Cone Drive as Panhandle Grading and Paving paves driveway connections and stripes the roadway.

This work is part of the final items to complete the roadway improvements on the 6.7 mile project which began in January of this year, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Rob, my husband and I were talking about that the other day. So many roads in this county are in much worse shape than the portion of Nine Mile being resurfaced. We speculated that it has to do with the Navy Federal Credit Union and the increased traffic in that area due to the number of employees they have. Same reason they added a traffic light at the interstate and Nine Mile.

When will Hwy 29 from Barth to Century be finished? No one has been working for quite some time now but the speed linit is still 55. Seems like one project needs to be finished before beginning another.

Im not even sure why they resurfaced it from I-10 to Perdido River. The road was not in bad shape. Just seemed like a waste to me.

The section between Hwy 29 and Pine Forest was the section that should have been given first priority, but from what I understand that section is next in line.
