McDavid Mini Mart To Close

August 22, 2012

The owners of the McDavid Mini Mart announced Tuesday that the store will be closing.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that we have decided to close McDavid Mini Mart. We hope everyone will understand that we have given all we have to keep the store running, but we are just plain tired, and we also want to spend time with our families, especially our grandsons, before they grow up on us,” the full-service community store announced on Facebook.

The store has already marked down inventory, and the owners said they are looking for a way to keep the deli food side of the business going.

I feel that based on it’s popularity and strategic location, the store will be purchased and continue on. Otherwise?

Make sure you have gas, milk and bread, as it is a good little distance between Molino and Century.

Hard to keep a good privately owned store in business. This one will be missed.

Good report William. I usually read the comments on these articles and was pleasantly surprised (I should not have been) to see that the first comment actually rec’d an answer-

    if owners are selling…leasing…

William, you not only do a superb job reporting and keeping us in the northern “hinterlands” abreast of our community, you also help us to help ourselves. Thanks and keep it up.

    Thom

Very sad :( My mom and my dad (he adopted me after meeting me) met in this store and eventually married. He passed away in 1994, but this is one of my memories :( Enjoy your time with your family because we never know when it will be our time to go!

Most people have no idea what it takes to run a business. You don’t own the business…it owns you….I am glad Kevin figured that out while his grandchildren are still young.those years with family cannot be gotten back once they are gone….really enjoy your retirement this time Kevin…

A golden opportunity for someone wanting to run a business, meet people, be the center of the community.
    Note: some work involved

This is really not good. I drove a Escambia County School bus from Pensacola ,I had to leave at 4:15 in the mornings ( I lived by I-1o) and Davis Hwy) and that was a stopping point for my bus aide and myself to use the restroom before we drove on into Centry to start our very long route that took us all the way over to the Atmore Rd. and on down to Westgate.( specila ed.) It was a life saver to us. And then in the evenins on the same route home we could stop after we got all of our children home for another break. I thank God many a times for that little store. We meet some very nice people that worked there.I am now retired, but I am sure it will be missed by other people that stops in there for coffee or a biscuit or whatever else they serve. God bless all the people that worked there and I hope they enjoy their time with their family because that is very important also.
THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE FOR US ALL THOSE YEARS.

This is sad news but I understand wanting to spend time with the family. When will the last day be? I don’t live in the immediate area any more but would like to try to stop by before they actually close. (it’s like saying good bye to a piece of my childhood) Plus, just have to get one more Vanilla Soda while I can :-)

Kevin I have enjoyed your burgers and milkshakes, hope the deli stays open.

To prospective buyers, adding high octain (octane) fuel would certaily be a draw.

    >>Just curious; are the owners interested in selling or leasing? If so, where will the information be listed?

From their Facebook page: “If anyone is interested (serious inquiries ONLY), please come by the store and we will discuss the terms, etc. for a smooth transition.”
