August 22, 2012

An Escambia County man was seriously injured Tuesday night when he was ran over by his own vehicle after running out of gas.

The Florida Highway Patrol said James Brittingham, 56, was westbound on County Road 296A west of Highway 90 when he ran out of gas on a hill. Brittingham was at the driver’s door attemptingĀ  to push the 1995 Ford truck out of the roadway when he fell down, according to the FHP. The front tire of the truck rolled over his legs, according to FHP.

Brittingham was transported to Baptist Hospital for treatment.

    @ Michele
God bless you!! Talk about restoring some faith in humanity. I hope there are more people out there like you and your husband.

    And @ the reason,
Really? You’re going to blame criminals for the lack of helping someone in need of help? I hope you never break down on the side of the road. Karma has funny ways of catching up to us.

the reason no one pulls over to help is that the world we live in is now full of con artists and criminals looking for any angle or opportunity to take advantage of someone. Late at night on a dark road would be very surprising to find someone willing to stop and pick someone up. Blame this on the criminals

My husband and I were at the accident last night. We actually assisted James (aka Wesley) off the road. My husband called 911 and directed traffic round Wesley to ensure his safety. I grabed a towl out of our SUV and wrapped the leg that was ran over by his truck, since most of the skin was already off. We were able to get Wesley out of the road and to the side of the truck. Through the grace of GOD, I was able to keep him stable. The ambulance came about 10 minutes later.

This is NOT a funny story at all. The gentleman will most likely lose his leg. He suffered a huge injury and a ton of blood loss. He is BLESSED to be alive.

I pray that GOD gives him comfort and guides the doctors to his recovery.

I hope the guy recovers fully and gets to the point where he sees that it is indeed hilarious. Talk about a rough day.

This story goes both ways. If most of us saw this on video, we would chuckle about it. The sad part is that he got injured, and I hope he is ok. The other sad part is that no one helped this man. Are there no good Samaritans left around here? Why did someone not pull over and help him push? Too worried about being a few minutes later on arrival somewhere? I hope the people that drove by him while he was pushing see this story and realize that they could have helped him and prevented his injuries. Cain asked God “Am I my brothers keeper?”. Apparently not, but lending a helping hand never hurts, but it does make someone else feel better.

“Escambia County man was seriously injured…”

Nothing “hilarious” about this. Poor guy was probably trying to get home or get to work… truck runs out of gas and he tries to push it out of traffic and gets hurt.

I hope he is ok. Life is full of hazards, and they can happen to any one of us at any time… I am sure he did not expect to get hurt when he woke up this morning.

“The front tire of the truck rolled over his legs, according to FHP…..”

Hopefully he will make a full recovery. He is likely to be in pain for some time, and may have life long complications from a single incident.

May we all have a little more compassion on our fellow human sojourners on this planet.
