Viacom Networks Return To DIRECTV

July 20, 2012

DIRECTV has reached a new long-term agreement with Viacom to restore 17 channels that were removed from the satellite service on July 10. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Channels that have now returned include including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, Spike, CMT, TV Land and 10 other channels.

In addition to the channels’ return, DIRECTV customers will also gain the ability to see Viacom programming on tablets, laptops, handhelds and other personal devices via the DIRECTV Everywhere platform.

. “We are very pleased to be able to restore the channels to our customers and thank them for their unprecedented patience and support,” said Derek Chang, executive vice president of Content Strategy and Development for DIRECTV. “It’s unfortunate that Viacom took the channels away from customers to try to gain leverage, but in the end, it’s clear our customers recognized that tactic for what it was.”

“Viacom is extremely pleased to bring its programming back to DIRECTV subscribers, and thanks everyone affected by the disruption for their patience and understanding during this challenging period,” Viacom said in a released statement.

I haven’t gotten any of the channels back yet. I feel like I am the only person who hasn’t seen them on their tv.

LEO GUY: I definitely agree with you! We have done it all and Directv is the best! We have had it for 13 years, since it first became popular. This is the first time that we have had an interruption in service of any kind. Service has always been exemplary as far as I am concerned. I commend the company for sticking to their guns and standing up for their customers. Unless they give me a very good reason, I will keep Directv.

You get what you pay for. Go try cable or the Dish Network and see how long before you come back to DirecTV, but hey keep looking for that perfect world. Been there done that. I’ll stick to DirectTV. :-/

Now, if they will just make all of those channels HD, it would be better.

Call DirecTV and complain. They gave us $10 off our next bill and free movie channels for 6 months. Pretty good for someone who never watched any of those channels anyway.

I am just not going to pay them for the several days without the viacom channels as that is what I signed up for. It is getting ridiculous that every other month there is always a dispute with DTV and some other channel company. We are the ones that suffer and I am sick of it. As soon as U verse is available in my area, its going to be on at my place.

DTV is a best, a joke. Will they give credit for the 10 days the channels were off? We will see!

Last week I had a DTV reciever box go bad. They charge me a rental fee each month for the box. Then they won,t me to pay a $49.95 service call for their box to be replaced. It ain,t gonna happen. Its their equipment and their responcibility to keep it in working order and I refuse to pay a service call for them to do it.

I’m sure DirecTV customers won’t see a pro-rated 10-day credit to their service for Viacom’s absence, but will be expected to pay whatever future increase to the monthly service that is sure to come.
