Molino Man Shot After Driving Into Cantonment House

July 13, 2012

A Molino man was shot multiple times after driving his vehicle into a house in Cantonment Friday morning in what is being described as a domestic violence related incident.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of  Jacks Branch Road just south of River Annex Road about 4:20 a.m.

John Alex Godwin, 34, crashed is his car into the home of 25-year old Heather McKamey of Cantonment.  The car literally pushed in the front door, door frame and surrounding bricks.

Godwin was shot by 25-year old Andrew Lundy of Cantonment, said Deputy Matt Baxter, spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, adding that Lundy will not face charges.

Godwin, who reportedly suffered multiple gunshot woulds to the chest, was airlifted by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he remained in critical condition Friday afternoon. Baxter said Godwin is expected to survive his wounds.

Charges are pending against Godwin, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Baxter described Godwin as McKamey’s ex-boyfriend.

A third person in the home, who has not been identified, had no part in the shooting, Baxter said. That person’s name has not been released.

All gun training classes tell you that when you pull your gun to aim for center mass. If someone rams their vehicle into your house intentionally, they are intending to do wrong and you have to believe they are going to do you harm. I truly feel horrible for all individuals involved but I totally support the young man that protected himself and the other members of the household.

well i was just wondering after a shot in the leg and him still coming a shot in the other leg would have been sufficient right? seems like over kill to shoot him in the chest amongst 3other places… Did he have a gun? did andrew see a weapon? maybe i am missing something here… And i am not saying what he did was right by no means just sayin it doesn’t make sense… If someone knows something i dont please tell me?

and one more final thought…in case things turn for the worse….

it was NOT andrews fault! andrew did not make that man take such chances with his life and the lives of everyone else involved. and lemme tell ya something, these days people have lost it, you can never be too careful. after driving into the side of the house, there is no telling how far he wouldve gone, or what he wouldve done if andrew would not have stopped him. the fact that he kept coming after them, even after he was shot in the leg, speaks volumes. i hope everything turns out for the better, but i am still supporting him 100%, and so is his family, his friends, and anyone else with some common sense. ~just saying

Andrew, I know you my be feeling all kind of emotions right now but know you did the right thing and we all stand by the decision you made to fire that gun. I hate that someone’s foolish decision caused him to be fighting for his life but unfortunately you can not stalk, threaten, or break into someones house unwelcomed and because of that unfortunately he suffered consequences. If I feel bad for anyone its Andrew having to deal with the fact he shot a man who may possibly lose his life and the violators family. Either way Andrew we are behind you and support your decision indefinitely.

@ gb yes, i know that, i was cheering him on! thanks for the already acknowledged info tho. me and andrew went to school together, i am friends with him and his family, i was encouraging him to know that he did what was right, and what he had to. because that guy had no right driving into the house, andrew was protecting himself and his own.

    REGARDING:
“he is a good person when drugs and/or alcohol is not playing a part in his life”

I’m not attacking this particular person or anyone else. Nonetheless, if a person is a good person unless he does a particular thing and then he decides to do that particular thing, he is not a good person in the first place. He decided to do what makes him a bad person knowing how it affects him. It took a while for MADD to convince the legislators of this, the fact that a person was not excused from murder by the fact that he decided to get drunk first.

    David for self-honesty

Family of John Godwin, please keep updating his status on here, their are several people concerned for his well being however, are unable to contact him.
What he did is un-excusable! Why would he act in this way….? Somethings have NO answers… Praying for the family and his life (for change). Sending love to baby Gracen! Know that NO ONE wanted this- in either direction!!!!!

why do you all say he’s lucky????? good thing no one in the house was killed. Great example to set for his son. This guy needs help!

    Andrew was the victim.

John has been in trouble more than most people I know but he is a good person when drugs and/or alcohol is not playing a part in his life. I hope and pray that he makes it out of the Hospital. I am a member of the family so I have been checking on his condition and know that he is not doing good. John has a beautiful little boy that needs a daddy and a very large family that loves him no matter what he does even though we do not agree with all of it.

I feel extremely sorry for his mother. She doesnot deserve the literal hell her son is putting her through! Maybe this will be one that wakes him up from a life of alchol and drug abuse, not to mention all of his other criminal activities.Just check his criminal records and you will find that he is no saint. There is no excuse for what he has done and he should pay for his mistakes. He was fournate this time and it didn’t cost him his life . He may not be so lucky next time. My prayers go out to everyone involved, most especially his mother.

andrew lundy!!! thats right, boi, protect yourselves and your loved ones, that guy couldve been on bath salts and ate your faces off!! ~just sayin, guys! we live in a very unstable world right now! there couldve been children, even if not of the girls, andrew couldve had babies there. thats jus terrible!

  13. JBR??? on July 13th, 2012 9:53 pm

There is no good excuse for this dangerously childish behavior. I’m lead to believe this act was brought on by more than just jealousy. Somebody played games with a bad boy… & everyone lost. Sad.

About time this slime ball got caught doing something, with all his many talents, one of which is breaking into our homes. Check his record on internet, been pretty busy , in & out of trouble & jail. With all the crap he’s done I still don’t know why he’s not doing time in prison. Oh yea I do know , our so called “Justice” system. I do have respect for & I’m behind our Law Enforcement 100%, they have a tuff job on the streets during these crime infested times, been there done it, glad I’m finally out of it.Glad the homeowner was home when this happened.

Ya’ll are right, I misread it. Don’t you hate it when that happens ????? My eyes are getting worse than I thought… Hope I don’t start confusing $1 bills for $100 bills..

  17. Old friend on July 13th, 2012 6:34 pm

Glad everyone is ok! John, I hope this was your wake up! You have a son to think about, that needs a dad. I hope and pray GOD shows you his love and takes all that bad out of you, cause you can truly be a GREAT guy if you will change.

  18. jw on July 13th, 2012 6:17 pm

he is lucky to be alive. I am surprised he has lived this long, breaking into peoples houses and stealing things. he has quite a record.

  19. juju on July 13th, 2012 5:32 pm

i am sure someone will blame David Morgan..

  20. Perdido Lady on July 13th, 2012 4:14 pm

I wish people would think before they act. What did he he really think he would resolve by crashing into the house? We all need to take a step back before we take action.

  21. AL on July 13th, 2012 4:10 pm

Scott – think you misread, Godwin is the nut who drove into the house. That guy has been a threat and fruitcake for a while, glad he didn’t get away with it again

  22. Jack on July 13th, 2012 3:53 pm

Scott, read it again. Goodwin crashed his car into an occupied building, why wouldn’t charges be pending against him?

  23. Scott on July 13th, 2012 3:23 pm

Why is Godwin pending charges? If someone crashed through the front of a house I was in, I would shot him too. Sounds justified to me !

  24. Molino Mom on July 13th, 2012 2:47 pm

This is crazy stuff… What good is someone even doing out at 04:20 am? I would have shot the person also. On the flip side, I am glad he is going to be okay for the sake of his child. Maybe he can finally “change.”

    CONSIDERING:
“described as a domestic violence related incident.”

Domestic violence would imply the one who shot him was a relative or domestic partner?

    David in an interesting world

  31. Cantonment Mom on July 13th, 2012 7:27 am

I know it’s not right, but I totally agree with jw!!! The World has lost it’s mind.

Give the man who shot him a medal

I figured they would have needed a herse (mortuary), rather than the life flight.

It’s like a poster said on a related article “you can’t make this stuff up”.
