Suspect Details Released In Weekend Murder

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in identifying the suspect in the drug related shooting of a 19-year old man late Friday night.

The incident happened in the 4400 block of Deauville Way off Massachusetts Avenue about 11:48 p.m. with deputies responding to a reported robbery of an individual and a possible gunshot victim.

When they arrived, they learned that Matthew Cox and 20-year old Charles D. Boutwell were outside of a house of Deauville Way when an unidentified black male approached them demanding money. During the robbery, Cox was shot and later pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20’s, about 5-foot-9-inches tall, 150 pounds, with a medium complexion and long dreads.

Investigators have said the shooting appeared to be drug related.
