Flomaton Man Charged With Davisville BP Burglary

July 5, 2012

A Flomaton man has been arrested in connection with a June burglary at a Davisville convenience store.

Curtis Charles Black, 29, was charged with burglary, petit theft and criminal mischief property damage. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $16,500.

The entire June 7 burglary at the Korner Kwik Stop (BP) on Highway 97 in Davisville was caught on video, and it was that video posted on NorthEscambia.com that first led deputies to Black as their suspect only a few hours after the crime.

An anonymous tipster saw the video and told deputies that they recognized Black from the video — and the Facebook page where a photo of the getaway vehicle was posted. Later, fingerprints recovered at the scene also fingered Black as the suspect.

The video shows a white male, allegedly Black, busting out the window of the store about 9:20 p.m., just after the store closed at 9 p.m.

The video shows Black arrivingĀ  in a light colored extended cab pickup truck with an emblem over the front windshield. He parks in front of the store and spends several minutes in the truck. Black then exits and takes a hammer to break out the window. He also tried unsuccessfully to break out the door glass. He then jumps through the broken window, rummages around behind the counter and tosses cigarettes and rolls of coins outside. Black also tries unsuccessfully to push buttons in order to open the cash register…all while leaving fingerprints behind.

While inside the store, he is seen using what appears to be towel in his hand in attempt not to leave fingerprints, but he often forgets to cover his hands.

At one point, a towel slips off his head showing most of his face on the video.

An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office crime scene technician recovered blood samples from broken glass and removed multiple fingerprints from the scene.

    Curtis, Curtis, Cutis, I hope it was worth it. I read so many stories on here that involve people I went to school with. It’s a shame. Maybe this was a one time incident and he won’t do it again. Or maybe it was a re-occuring incident and he just got caught this time.

    If you get a chance Curtis turn your life around, you were always a sweet guy, don’t keep on this path.

    Now this one here I might could believe an incompetent defense. :)

    Dear Sarah Moore, perhaps he is not a bad guy and made a one-time mistake, but stupid is forever. Tell your pal not to quit his day job.

    To Sarah Moore;

    You need to understand why people feel the way they do. If you owned this store, and worked there everyday of the week to support your family-you might look at this a little differently. You have to admit, when you watch that video-its hard to think about him being a good guy. Nobody is knocking his parenting skills. But most of us parents do try to lead by example. I’m not seeing that here. I don’t think anyone is wanting the death penalty for him, just the appropriate punishment for his CRIME, and yes its still a crime.

    HAHAHAHAHA! Not a bad guy? Maybe HE needs to read the bible. Specifically that little thing called a commandment that says, “THOU SHALL NOT STEAL”

    Ok.. So not the smartest robber, we can see that by the video. People do make bad choices. I work with people everyday who made terrible choices due to addiction. I pray this incident is his “rock bottom” and he will not continue to self destruct.

    For all of your information. He is not a bad guy. Just went off the right path. He is a great father and a loving human being. So if yal think he is a bad guy. Because he made one mistake. That’s on you and shame on you. Thy shell not judge. Looks like some people need to read about that. So get your Bible and read it. Everyone makes mistakes one time or another. So you need to look at your mistakes. Before talking about someone else’s

    Glad they caught this guy – but we all knew it was going to be fairly easy because of the video. It was almost like he wanted to get caught.

    @BD McGee
    Yes, this should be on that show. I don’t watch it regularly but the times I have seen it was very entertaining.

    Anyone got the number for the TV Show “Dumbest Criminals Caught on Tape”?

    Another thief now off the streets. Thank goodness for honest people in coming forward with the tips. Great job Escambia Co Sheriff’s Department and a great job North Escambia for reporting this crime and in doing so helped catch the alleged criminal.
