Fireman: Police Chief’s Quick Action Saves Drowning Child
July 8, 2012
Quick action by Flomaton’s police chief is being credited with saving a toddler’s life Saturday evening.
A 3-year old boy nearly drowned in a pool about 6:30 Saturday. According to Flomaton Fire Chief Steve Stanton, Police Chief Daniel Thompson was off-duty a few houses away when the incident happened. Thompson performed CPR on the young child for at least a couple of minutes until the first firefighters arrived on scene and took over, Stanton said. The young boy was resuscitated.
The boy could be seen alert and smiling in the arms of a LightFlight medic as he was transferred to a stretcher to be airlifted. to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
“I just want to thank all of our policemen and firemen for the training they undergo,” Stanton said. “And I want to thank them all for the job they do.”

Chief Daniel is doing a fantastic job and as always Thank God for Steve and the FVFD !!
Great job Chief Thompson, Flomaton Fire Department and LightFlight medics. I am so glad to hear that this baby boy is alright.
WoW, God was really working that day as I also had to jump in the pool when I saw my 17 month old baby floating on her face with no movement at all. I grabbed her, looked at her and she was fine. I checked her lungs with a stethoscope just to make sure and she is fine. How long was she floating? It could have been 2 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, either way, God was with us and this story that day.
PRAISE BE TO GOD GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE!

Flomaton has hope in the care of Chief Thompson. You’re a great guy, keep up the work and praises to all the fire fighters!
Chief Thompson is the best thing to happen to Flomaton in a long long time.
Good Work Chief!
This is why EVERY parent (especially those with small children) should know CPR. I got certified right after I had my oldest and she’s 28 now. I recertifiy every few years. My 17 yr old son is certified too!
Kudos to Flomaton PD and Flomaton Fire. Great job.
If it weren’t for these fast acting, fast thinking, well trained people who do this for a living there would be far more caualties. Thank you all! You do a great job and I hope people understand how hard you try and how hard it can be sometimes.
Praise the Lord for Angels on Assignment!!! So very thankful to hear a happy ending to story.
