FHP: DUI Suspect Hit Her Own Mother Leaving Bar

July 28, 2012

The woman who hit a pedestrian in a DUI  crash Wednesday night in Cantonment actually hit her own mother, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report released Friday.

The accident happened about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 95A just north of Highway 29, near the Gee Willies convenience store.

When a FHP trooper arrived on the scene, he found 38-year old Melissa Diane Kettering of Crowndale Road seemingly intoxicated and extremely emotional, according to the report. She had, according to the  FHP report, struck a pedestrian identified as her mother, Deborah Kettering.

Deborah Kettering told the FHP that she had gone to Mustangs, a nearby bar, with her daughter. Deborah Kettering said she wanted to leave, so she began walking toward home.

Meanwhile, Melissa Kettering told deputies that when she left the bar, she struck her mother with the left mirror of her vehicle.

The FHP reported that Melissa Kettering refused to finish all of the field sobriety exercises being administered by the trooper. She was placed under arrest for DUI and booked into the Escambia County Jail. She was later released on a $500 bond.

Debroah Kettering’s injuries were not considered serious.

Further details about the accident have not been released.

    REGARDING:
“You all are judging and making assumptions.”

Who is the evil person judging?

I didn’t see where anyone assumed she hit her mother on purpose. We MAY assume she intentionally drove the car and was responsible for what she did while doing so, but surely that is a reasonable assumption.

We may assume the following is correct: “The FHP reported that Melissa Kettering refused to finish all of the field sobriety exercises being administered by the trooper. She was placed under arrest for DUI ”

If we believed that, we might assume she decided to not cooperate with law enforcement officers and that she gave some indications of being under the influence of some mind altering substance such as alcohol. Perhaps we should assume law enforcement officers just made it all up and that the hit never happened either and that she was not driving.

It’s possible, but is it reasonable?

You all are judging and making assumptions. I know the daughter and I doubt she purposely hit her mom… Have you ever thought she may have been pulling out of the parking lot and hit her mom? I pray for her and her mother. She was very emotional when FHP arrived.

If she was pulling out of the parking lot and hit her mom, that is how you hit someone with the left mirror.

    Michelle for world peace!

    CONSIDERING:
“how do you hit someone on the left hand side of the car.”

You drive up to them on their right side and then either cut left or they move right.

I am wondering like Gerald how do you hit someone on the left hand side of the car. When your suppose to be on the right hand side of the road. Exactly how did that happen? Was the mom in the middle of the road or were they in the parking lot or was it an intentional hit?
Just saying it does not add up. There is something fishy about this story. I hope it will be investigated further. I personaly beleive it’s a little more to the story that is yet to be told. Just saying.

How do you hit someone on the left side?
Unless the person is walking in the middle of the road. Or the vehicle is on the wrong side. Or they were still in the parking lot.

So sad, maybe this will hit closer to home for the driver.

She went to the bar with her daughter and decided she wanted to leave so she started walking? Now, I know it’s not far from there to Crowndale but still….people don’t usually walk home from a bar and especially not on 95A. So….the daughter leaves and hits her because she’s a) too drunk to see her or b) mad at her mom for whatever reason.

Either way, the whole darn situation stinks!

    Another reason to avoid bars,

I guess she will have a nother drink and drive some more. People like this just should be under the jail and never should see day light again. To many people die from being STUPID. I’m really glad her mom was not hurt really bad.
