Escambia Man Get Prison On Drug, Weapon Charges

July 12, 2012

An Escambia County man has been sentenced to prison on drug and weapons charges.

State Attorney Bill Eddins said Miguel Rios was sentenced by Judge Jan Shackelford to 25 years state prison as a habitual felony offender. After a two-day trial, a jury convicted Rios of trafficking in cocaine and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. On September 22, 2011, Rios sold a firearm and trafficking amount of narcotics to an undercover deputy with the intent to have the officer transport the drugs across state lines and distribute them. During the course of the investigation, Rios made claims that he was a member of the Zeta cartel, a Mexican drug cartel known for its violence, Eddins said.

Rios has previously been convicted of murder in Texas and was a convicted felon.

Good. Another loser off the streets. Those cartels are BAD NEWS. If they start getting AND serving extremely long sentences, it MAY deter some of the smarter ones. The problem is that they all (mostly) think they won’t get caught – that they can outsmart the “man”.

It’s been my experience that when the law enforcement or federal marshals pick these guys up, they already know the answers to the questions they ask them.

Murder. Yep, most guys do less time for murder than they do for drug convictions, especially if they are 2nd or 3rd time offenders. Crazy.

This is ridiculous!!! It makes me wonder how many more convicted murderers are on our streets. If the judicial system was better, they would keep them locked away! This would keep them from commiting other crimes. Probably another murder.

Previously convicted of murder in Texas? Why was he out on the streets now? that’s crazy a murder, a convicted murder was able to roam our streets but someone who has a non violent crime is in jail for years, i don’t get our justice sysytem AT ALL
