Escambia Deputy Shooting Suspect Arrested

July 23, 2012

A man wanted in connection with the July 11 shooting of an Escambia County deputy was arrested Sunday.

Antonio Emmanuel  Moorer, age 27 of Pensacola, was taken into custody by the Pensacola Police Department following a traffic stop at “J” and Brainerd streets. He is charged with attempted first degree murder, vehicle theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He is being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.

Deputy Ryan Robinson, 32, was shot as he worked in the Oakwood Terrace Apartments on Truman Avenue.

A shot was fired into Robinson’s stomach, but his bulletproof vest stopped the round. He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where he was treated and released.

The incident happened about 10:45 p.m. July 11 as three members of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Anti-Crime Unit, also known as TAC unit, were conducting “proactive police work”  in the apartment complex. Deputy Robinson gave chase, and one of the men fired at him.

Deputies quickly surrounded one apartment and removed four people, one of which they believed to be the shooter. In the meantime, someone stole an unmarked TAC Unit vehicle that was found abandoned a short time later a few blocks away at the intersection of Coons and Norris avenues. A manhunt followed in the area for the suspect with numerous officers, K-9 units and the department’s helicopter.

The Sheriff’s Office said Moorer had fled the scene that night. But a warrant was issued for his arrest when the investigation concluded.

Thank you JJ… what person does this then turns themselves in for questioning??? Yet just a week later heis being charged with first degree murder?? Some thing does’t seem right about this story! I personally know the suspect and I’m definately looking forward to the trail… I truely believe they got the wrong guy. Call me crazy but he is innocent until PROVEN guilty!!!

Before everyone passes judgement, it must be noted that this man turned himself into police when he was wanted for questioning and was later released…let the court system do its job, he is still innocent until proven guilty

sad part about it, this is my uncles stepson we all grew up together and pretty much saw each other everyday….smh…..I thank God for my immediate family and for us being different than this. I feel you tried to take the life of someone son, brother, husband, father, and uncle so whatever his fate is I don’t feel bad for him because poor decision making has landed him here. I wish things could have turned out differently but when you live the street life you will either die by it or spend the rest of your life in jail.

This guy pointed a weapon and pulled the trigger he ment to kill, that is what guns are for to kill. This has got to stop all of these shootings it does not proove anything a child can pull a trigger on a gun. It does not make these people any tougher than a small child. And as far as the people living in this place wake up before your child gets killed it could have happened turn these people in when you know they are trying to shoot at people its not gonna take much for you and your children to be in the way when it all goes wrong. I do not want to put these people down in these housing I lived in the village for years I know that there are good people but things have changed respect has changed it is not the same.

So glad they caught this creep! Now if they’ll only keep him in jail. People like this makes our streets not safe. At least it’s one less piece of trash off the street.

If you are wondering why this guy has a smirk on his face just youtube some truman arms videos… Quite a few of them(mostly all) are of people fighting and carrying on about gang activity and violence. Its a pretty tough area. After all it IS walled up with concrete and razor wire.

    Uncle,

No need to take offense. The article said he is being charged with first degree murder. He didn’t kill anybody that we know of.

Should have been attempted murder. Convicted Felon,,,,,,,,,,,,he needs to spend what’s left of his useless life in jail……….No more probation, early out, no nothing. The judicial is just too easy on these types !!! Perhaps a 50 cent bullet to the brain pan would save the state a whole lot of money. Just my thought !!

    Abe, whom did he murder?

Thank God he didn’t murder my Nephew but he tried. I don’t forgive him for what he has done because he could have inflicted harm to my nephew which would have inflicted pain to my niece and their children. I hope if he did this he spends a lot of time in prision to reflect. Abe, if he had shot at yours what would you wish?
