Driver Charged With DUI After Pedestrian Hit By Vehicle On Hwy 95A

July 26, 2012

A Cantonment woman was charged with driving under the influence by the Florida Highway Patrol after she allegedly hit a pedestrian Wednesday night in Cantonment.

The accident happened about 10:30 p.m. on Highway 95A just north of Highway 29, near the Gee Willies convenience store.

Melissa D. Kettering, age 38 of Crowndale Road, apparently struck the pedestrian with the driver’s side of her Mercury car, knocking a rear view mirror off the car. The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a Pensacola area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The name of the pedestrian has not yet been released.

The Cantonment and Molino stations of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the crash.

    @Cantonment Mom,

    Write a letter to your elected state representatives asking them to change the law. Ask friends and family to do the same.
    That’s the only way to change it.
    Jurors here are hesitant to convict drunks, even with overwhelming evidence against them. Go down to the courthouse and watch a trial someday, it will blow your mind.

    Just my thought, if someone gets behind the wheel after drinking, they should be charged with attempted murder. They have created a deadly weapon out of their vehicle when they drive impaired.

    Thank goodness it does not appear that the pedestrian in this case was killed, but they easily could have been. There is NO excuse to drive drunk or impaired and threaten other people’s lives with their stupidity!

    How do you hit a pedestrian with the left side of your car?

    I see people walking and on bicycles along 95A a lot. If it is dark or close to dark they are hard to see. A lot of them have on dark clothing, so no matter what your condition, even when you expect to see them they are hard to see. Please people, wear something white or carry a flashlight!
