Man Shot By Deputy Dies
July 7, 2012
A man shot by at least one Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy Friday afternoon has died.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed disturbance on Ladybird Lane, just northeast of the I-10 and Airport Boulevard interchange. At the home, a man threatening suicide inside reportedly pointed a gun at the deputies.
The man was shot and transported by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition where he passed away a short time later.
Two deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure in officer involved shootings. The primary investigation will be conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

One reason for being put on leave is to get the officers a change to talk to a counselor. The act of killing a person puts a heavy load on the officer and some need the time to get profession help to get over the shooting.
@ just me
The deputies are not being punished. It is standard procedure. The admin time is also for the deputies to recover from what can be a traumtic event.
First of all, I agree with Bill. I want to know why Police are put on admin leave when some psycho was waving a gun & threatening to kill himself? So what, he wanted to die anyway. The Police did what they had to do to keep from being killed!
I agree with bill
ditto what bill l said
God bless those deputies.
The police officer has a split second when someone points a gun at him. So glad the officer did not make his wife a widow and his kids fatherless. So sorry someone died but very glad it was not the deputy. Please pray for our police officers and firefighters at least once a week. They need it
