Belle Foods: New Name Coming To Area Grocery Stores

July 11, 2012

Changes are coming to several grocery stores across the area as they are transformed into “Belle Foods” stores.

The Food World in Atmore, four Food World stores in Pensacola and the Piggly Wiggly in Brewton are among 57 stores undergoing the name change within the next 18 months.

All of the stores are owned by Southern Family Markets of Birmingham, now renamed Belle Foods, LLC.

With the slogan “Refreshing Simple”, the company plans to develop the brand, focusing on customer service, simplicity and “loyalty card” savings.

Atmore residents can tell family…..Take me to that grocery store over by the High School. No name required.

This new owner is trying to take these stores back to a home style feel and is also trying to honor the Bruno family that was lost in the plane crash. when those leaders were lost it was the beginning of the end for the stores. He originally wanted to rename all the stores brunos in order to honor them. It sounds like he has some good ideas and is trying to bring back some wonderful service and deals. Lets give him a chance!

I don’t understand the cards either, it’s one reason why I don’t care for Winn Dixie anymore. I hate putting those stupid tags on my key ring, and I don’t like having to say my phone number.

Someone mentioned cleanliness, but I can honestly say the Food World in Atmore is kept pretty clean.

I would like to know, what is the deal with loyalty cards? They are pointless and Stupid. Set a low price and keep it there. I mean it is $4.99 regular price or $3.99 with
the card. Doesn’t it make more since to just say $3.99, the heck with the stupid pieces of plastic that will come off your keyring, and U have to remember what Telephone# U put down. It is pointless, dumb and a pain. Their is my $4 and 99€ worth. O my bad $3 and 99€.

The Food World on Olive and Davis used to get my early morning business, but changed the opening hour. So now I shop at Publix, yes I may pay a little more, but you get what you pay for. The T-Bone steak for $4.99 a lbs at Food World comes from Mexico according to a store employee, and is so tough my dog had trouble chewing it, and he is 138 lb rotty, not a cart in the store has decent wheels, and no matter what time of day it is, you WILL wait in line, never more than 1 or 2 working the check-out and they will be glad to tell you how awful their job is and how bad management treats them. Everyone working at this store seem to hate their job, and are always unhappy. So I now shop at Publix, you are always greeted and they know their customers. So Long Food World or whatever your name is this week.

Piggly Wiggly is perhaps the best name for a grocery store ever devised by the mind of man. It’s always sad when another one of them bites the dust.

If they would clean up the stores, that would be wonderful too. The stores are dirty, along with the prices. Clean the floors, get some new equipment in there and we won’t feel so bad when we buy something. I won’t buy anything from the local stores unless it’s last minute because they are so dirty.

I shop regularly at Food World, and I have been trying to keep my dollars in Atmore, but I have seen two or three of these changeovers in the last few years, and yes, every time that happens the prices rise.. I was in Brewton earlier this week and stopped at a big store.. (you can probably guess the name).. I bought two rotisserie chickens for about half what they are here.. They were really big ones.. Here in Atmore they are almost twice as much, and not nearly the size or quality of the ones I bought.. I spent some time looking at prices of what I normally purchase, and discovered that it would probably be worth my while to drive a little.. However, I will wait and see what they will do when they take over, because I would really like to keep all my business in this area..

nothing is changing but the name… It will cost the company more money for the name change for no improvement in anything… Don’t fret, the company will pass the cost on to you the costomer…Horay!! Maybe even count the employees as new jobs, since its a different name, and get a bunch of those new tax credits we (those that did.. not me) voted for last year to bring in new jobs… Job creators!!! It’s a big joke and we (the people) are the butt of it.

Dear Belle Foods, Food World, Southern Family Market, Food Max or whatever you want to be called this week: Why bring back those stupid “LOYALTY” cards? They are a pain in the rear and if you set them up like CVS, you will have lost a loyal customer. Keep offering a decent price on meats, with an onsite butcher to help the customer, don’t add “pink slime” to your ground beef, keep selling poultry products that don’t have 10%+ added water and junk, and have decent produce and you won’t have to go through the garbage of “Loyalty” cards. I don’t care what you name yourself, just keep decent service and foods and profits will follow,

Also, to everyone’s disappointment, the new owners closed the Pharmacy at the Food World on Pine Forest Road, which was a complete surprise to the pharmacy staff. I had asked the new owners when they bought the store about their plans for the pharmacy and they assured me that nothing would change. Which, from all indications, this pharmacy had a great business going…..andI, for one, did grocery shopping there because of the pharmacy, but have other grocery stores closer to my home which I will now stop at. Good luck to them…..

And the name changing is not the end of it, every time the name changes so does the prices. We quit shopping there because they got to high for my limited income budget.

This place has changed it’s name so many times in the last few years it’s past being funny! Just as soon as a shopper gets used to where things are and what they now have and don’t have anymore, whoops, things get all messed up again.

Change Change Change and now U want to change the name of the store yet again. Please U making people think to hard. “Where U getting groceries at grandma.” Food Fair. “well where is that”? “O yes it is Southern Family Market.” “O no Food World.” “O wait they changed the name again to Belle Foods.” “Baby I don’t know where we are going, just wait till we get there and we will see what the name is when we get there.” My point is STOP changing the name of the store. Not good for business and it is Dumb, playing musical names.
