Alabama Man Dies As Result Of Traffic Crash

July 3, 2012

An Alabama man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a Monday morning traffic crash.

Alabama State Troopers said 24-year old Robert Marcus Powell was eastbound on Highway 31 near Abrams Road, about six miles east of Atmore, when he collided nearly head-on with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jonathan Criswell, of Ray City, Ga.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free Powell from the Corolla after the crash. He was transported by Atmore Ambulance to Bay Minette, Ala., and then airlifted to the USA Medical Center in Mobile where he later passed away from his injuries.

Criswell and passengers in both vehicles were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

So sad for such a young person to die; pray for his friends & family. To learn from this I suggest to everyone..”Just slow down, no need to hurry.” Hwy 31 on that stretch is a curvy & dangerous road…maybe more signs are needed to remind folks.

I pray for this young man’s family. I pray for all the young people that get behind the wheel. As my mother has told her children and grandchildren( maybe everyone could use this to) when going somewhere be careful and watch the other fellow!

I hate to read this. I live in Atmore but work in Brewton so I travel this route every day. I came up on this accident after it happened; they had already transported the young man who eventually passed away. But even at that stage, it looked like a very bad accident. This part of Hwy 31 is curvy, somewhat hilly, and can be dangerous. It is totally a no passing zone, but I see people pass other vehicles in this area of Hwy 31 all the time. It even happened yesterday afternoon as I was traveling back home on the same route. The world has lost another young man, not to mention his family’s loss. I urge everyone to please be extra, extra careful when driving this road; drive defensively. Please don’t take chances that could cause you to lose your life, or the life of someone else.

Prayers for the young man! And I am glad to know there are still people in the world who will stop to help out someone in need. And its even better when they are a fantastic RN and her husband.
