Photos: Cool Mammatus Clouds, Possible Funnel Cloud (With Today’s Weather Forecast)

Tuesday brought unusual and stormy weather –and clouds — to the North Escambia area.

In the Atmore and Walnut Hill areas, mammatus clouds created an unusual view for those looking skyward. Mammatus  clouds are characterized by smooth, round puffs hanging from the underside of a cloud, often a cumulonimbus cloud. They are often associated with the approach of severe thunderstorms.

In Walnut Hill, our NorthEscambia.com cameras captured a possible very weak funnel cloud in the area of Ernest Ward Middle School. For more photos of the possible funnel cloud, click here.

Here is Tuesday’s official North Escambia area forecast:

  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
  • Friday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Sunny, with a high near 92. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
  • Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Calm wind becoming southeast between 5 and 10 mph.
  • Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
  • Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 90.
  • Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.
  • Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 91.
  • Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.
  • Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90.
