Man Charged With Bread Store Robbery

June 2, 2012

An Escambia County man was arrested Friday shortly after robbing a discount bread store and assaulting the elderly clerk.

About 12:30 p.m., Vincent L. Johnson, 39, entered the Dolly Madison bread store at 1815 West Fairfield Drive and got into a scuffle with the clerk, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. The 71-year old clerk was knocked to the ground, and Johnson fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

A witness was able to get a vehicle description that led deputies to the 3200 block of Tarragona Street where they were able to take Johnson into custody.

Johnson was charged with battery on a person 65 year of age of older, petit theft and robbery without a firearm. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $21,000.

The clerk, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

    REGARDING:
“Stupid people will do stupid things cause they are too stupid to believe they will get caught.”

And while it IS stupid in the long run, they quite often get away with their crimes several times ere being caught. If everyone were caught the first time, every time, even with minor punishment there would far less crime than there already is.

I’m convinced most murders wouldn’t happen if folks knew they would have to pay a thousand dollar fine minimum if they killed. Instead they risk their freedom and lives on the assumption they will get away with it.

    David for sure, certain justice

429scj…In old England, pickpockets would work the crowds a public hangings. Your theory is good but hasn’t been too helpful in reality. Stupid people will do stupid things cause they are too stupid to believe they will get caught.

These criminals are actively looking for targets of opportunity…a steady diet of bread and water locked in a cage for a very long time is fitting punishment for any thief. Criminals should have no rights whatsoever, they have forfieted that right when they choose to commit crimes against law abiding citizens.

Battery on a 71 year old for a few bucks. Just like Jim W said of another
man in an article. Catch him and Lock him up forever. It’s time to send a strong
message to the thugs that think everyone else owes them a living and
they can just take what they want even if it means beating up one of our elderly
citizens. This needs to stop, these people are just BAD and something isn’t wired right~

    What makes these dimwits think:
    1. I think I will rob a store and then
    2. A discount bread store will be the best one to rob?

Just proves the thought that only really stupid people rob stores.

What next? Breaking into grocery stores to steal all the Ramen noodles?

If the punishment were terrible enough, crime would just about grind to a halt.
