Florida Democrats Outregistering GOP, Both Lagging Behind NPA’s

June 19, 2012

More Democrats than Republicans registered to vote in Florida in May, driven by women and Hispanics, according to state registration data released early by the Democratic Party.

Democrats said they registered 5,108 more voters in May than the Republican Party did, the fourth month in a row the party has led the GOP in new registrations.

The party released the favorable figures ahead of the state, which typically lags in its reporting of the data on its website.

The most recent official tally on the state’s elections website, from April, showed 4.5 million registered Democrats in the state and just under 4.1 million registered Republicans.

But when the May state data is released, the larger story is likely to continue to be that independents are outpacing both parties in recent registration.

The official April state registration report, the last available from the Division of Elections, shows Democrats registered just over 7,000 new voters that month compared to about 4,000 new Republicans.

But the number of no-party voters increased by nearly 15,000 in April, according to state figures, more than double the number of new Democrats. Another 500 or so new minor party voters registered. State figures in April showed 2.3 million Florida voters registered with no party and 342,000 with minor party affiliations.

The GOP regularly dismisses registration figures as meaningless because of the large amount of cross-over voting, particularly in north Florida where many Democrats often vote for Republican candidates.

Democrats, on the other hand, say national politics have pushed women and Hispanics toward the party and also say Republican Gov. Rick Scott’s generally low popularity numbers have helped registration efforts. Democrats say the state figures for May will show their party with a 12 percent registration advantage among Hispanics and a 14 percent advantage among women.

Registration closes July 16 for voters who want to vote in the Aug. 14 primary election. Voters can continue to register until Oct. 9 to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 6 general election.

    REGARDING:
“Is marital infidelity any more immoral than stealing elderly peoples retirement?? I do not think so.
Some things to think about: Enron, Bernie Madoff, Haliburton,,,,”

The most common way to steal elderly people’s retirement is through inflation — make money worth less than it was. That way you steal from all the old, not just a few. And they say, “I’ve got plenty of money, it just isn’t worth much.”

If we’re going to point out the failings of some, we shouldn’t exempt the others, should we?

If we’re talking Enron, we’re talking actions taking place under our President Clinton, only being exposed under that evil Bush.

When we consider Bernie, “Since 1991, Madoff and his wife have contributed about $240,000 to federal candidates, parties and committees, including $25,000 a year from 2005 through 2008 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “

This means he was a committed Republican, right? Democrat?
No, it means he was a thief who knew how to grease the wheels. He operated from 1960 to 2008, so consider the administrations who knew and favored him. If we’re just considering administrations, who was president when he was finally arrested?

    Halliburton?

They do good work and are making heaps of money under President Obama. Cheney appreciates it.

But back on Edwards, yes, his Democratic supporters would do just about anything to keep him as a viable candidate. The American people just didn’t buy it.

Party people care more for their party than the people of the nation — Democrat or Republican. Or so it seems to me.
And the rise in the number of independent voters implies they agree neither party is too shiny.

    David for better candidates

    To David,
I am not certain what you were referring to as far as John Edwards went, but I believe his infidelity ruined any chance he had of ever running for the White House again.
Fringe Benefits??? What fringe benefits do some of the democrats get that some of the republicans do not get?

John Edwards did it for me. Sometimes I disagree with what the Democratic party is doing but then I think of the fringe benefits some Democrats receive and …..

    Whew!
Glad to know the election’s over already and decided.

I am not about to say that anyone who voted for a republican is stupid. I have voted for several. I will say that Rick Scott and Mike Haridopolous have caused me to become a hardcore Democrat. My Daddy grew up in the depression and always told me that the Republicans were for the rich and against the people, I must admit that my Daddy was much wiser than I had thought. Rick Scott, the Florida senate and several members of the house have solidified that with their awarding state jobs with no bid contracts to their campaign contributors. Mowing the highways is done by a contractor now. Do you ever see them mowed? They are paid to, but the grass is always waist high. Just look sometime. This was done in an effort to save money???? My taxes have not gone down.

Like parroting the claim that the purpose of each and every Republican is to make the richest Republicans richer and impoverish the rest of the world, or mocking the statement that there HAVE been false sign-ups.

Yep, that’s the way to win friends and influence people, call anyone who ever voted for a Republican candidate stupid.
    People respond well to insults.
That’ll get us more Democratic voters for sure.

    David in an insulting party

Calling republicans that finally understand the party and its goal of make the rich richer and the middle class poorer are not Mickey mouse or Donald ducks, they are coming to their senses. You bought the old republican by line of false sign ups for democrats. Looks like some one they love to take money from and give to the rich not that bright and repeats every thing they are told.

this IS Florida, the home of Disney World. There should be at least ONE Mickey Mouse and one Donald Duck.

If so, I bet they registered Independent, since they always were independent sorts.
