Computer Fraud Charges Dropped Against Escambia Deputy

June 4, 2012

Charges have been dropped against an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested late last year for allegedly misusing a law enforcement computer system.

Michael Patrick Bowman was charged by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on a charge of  third degree felony computer-related fraud. Late last week, Judge Gary Bergosh dismissed all charges against Bowman.

He had been accused of allegedly using a Sheriff’s Office computer system to view drivers’ records and criminal histories for persons that were part of any open investigation.

If the media looked into how discipline was handled, or not handled at the Sheriff”s Office the public would be shocked. All disciplinary actions are public record once the investigation is concluded. Officers who break the same rules will have different outcomes, some receiving light to no discipline and others being terminated. This is not rumor or political mud slinging, it’s public record and can be verified at any time. The Deputy mentioned in this article was arrested and placed on administrative leave, while a dispatcher was found to have done to same thing and nothing happened, no charges, no administrative leave, is that fair to the Deputy who still had to feed his family and survive? Ask any Deputy thats works the north end of Escambia County if they haven’t been touched or threatened with this type of disciplinary action. Deputies who have worked out of the Century sub station have been threatened with transfers recently when it was thought that they did not support the right person in the Sheriff’s election. Ask them, but don’t be surprised if they are scared to answer.

Need a change is dead on with his assessment of Sheriff Morgans administration. I understand the this deputy who was caught asleep 4 times, was not fired but merely made a dispatcher. It could be that this deputys wife is a Sergeant and is in tight with Morgan. Good ole boy system never left. The only thing Morgan has done in his brief term of office is schedule some clean up efforts throughout the county. Anybody could have organized this. Morgan needs to go. He is not a real law enforcement officer. His arrogance is like none I have ever seen in a person.

If the people of Escambia County truly knew what decisions were made down on L Street and how many problems the Sheriff didn’t deal with, there wouldn’t need to be an election, Morgan would be gone. I’m glad he has supporters in the Karoake bars, but our county needs a change. I’m not here campaigning for anyone, I know this Sheriff and his operation are a joke. Put someone in office that will know his officers, that will care enough to know his officers, not just their name. We still are living and working in the good ‘ole boy system he campaigned so much against. At least McNesby looked out after his people! Morgan throws his people to the wolves and then back tracks! Mike Bowman should be hired back and the office should be forced to repay him while he was suspended. Trust me he isn’t the only one that has used his power for something he shouldn’t have. There were two dispatchers that didn’t make the paper that did the same thing! How about the Deputy currently now a
dispatcher that kept falling asleep at work! He wasn’t fired! Amazing how something are covered up!! Good luck Mike!

Judge dismissed the charges – wonder why did the state spent our money prosecuting him when they did not have a case.

It’s funny how the original article was full of people bashing this guy….however when the truth comes out and charges are dropped….nothing. It’s a shame that the issue was not looked into correctly before this guys career was turn upside down. With that said, I’m glad William atleast ran an article clearing this mans name.
