Open Soon: Molino Tax, Property Offices Open (With Photo Gallery)

June 25, 2012

Next week, new Escambia County tax collector and property appraiser offices will open in Molino.

The offices will be located in a new 7,000 square foot building constructed adjacent to the old Molino School on Highway 95A, just south of Molino Road.

Touring her new office location with NorthEscambia.com, Tax Collector Janet Holley took a moment to point out the signs next to the office restrooms — “Cowgirls” and “Cowboys”. It’s part of the “local flair” meant to reflect the Molino area community.

The Molino service center  for the tax collector will process motor vehicle and vessel registrations and titles, hunting and fishing licenses, property taxes, and business tax receipts.  Limited driver license and ID card services will be available by appointment only.  The new office will continue to offer drive thru service and a 24-hour drop box. Office hours will remain the same — Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m

The county currently leases the Cantonment service center location in the old Winn Dixie Shopping Center for about $60,000 per year. That money, Holley said, will likely be saved and  returned by her office to the county’s coffers at the end of the fiscal year.

Property Appraiser Chris Jones is moving his office from the nearby Escambia County Farm Bureau office on Highway 97, saving the county about $16,000 per year in rent.

A waste of money. As soon as the budget cuts hit they will limit hours and days of use just like Santa Rosa County tax collector is doing.

    agree with Ray and Trish.

Wrong decision … county officials. I will never go to the “W” Street annex again, and was driving long distance to the Cantonment office. Great that Molino has their own office, so where are the extended hours for people that actually work to get to these offices before closing? I already had to take the afternoon off from work to renew a drivers license because of the new rules. IT was a no, no to renew my mail…tried that.

Call me crazy but I find it insulting that Ms. Holly said the bathrooms were called cowboys and cowgirls because “it was part of the local flair to reflect the Molino area community”. Where are the cowboys and cowgirls in this area, we use the term men and women? If you want to make fun of country people (most people from town think we are stupid hicks) then you might as well put “Bulls” and “Cows” on the doors. But then maybe not, you probably don’t know the difference in bulls, steers, heifers and cows.

Im sure the people in molino are prod of the office being up their But the location in cantonment was a centeral location for the people in molino as well as those in Ensley and Gonzalez now we will haft to drive to “w” street to give this counth our money NOT HAPPY.

BTW, good job Janet Holley, Chris Jones and County Commisioners, I think you made a very wise investment in our county’s future.

This is another example of our local government at work for comfort of county employees at the expense of taxpayer.

The building is lovely! The area is going to enjoy having this convenience. Welcome!!!

    Dear Ms Holley,
You and your 3 million dollar building have cost you my vote from this point forward. You resistance to accepting a portion of the old Molino school and insistence on a new building should be your final decision as a steward of my tax money.

I cannot believe the lack of rage, this county is BROKE, we didnt need a brand new building in Molino when a part of the old school would have been acceptable.

Thank u for the new office. Some people just do not understand the country. If u want a closer grocery store move back closer to town. We love it here.

Congrats on your new facility, hope the move goes well. I have always gotten great service from the cantonment office, and have told them they give a bad name to DMV/tag offices elsewhere where you can expect to sit and sweat and be treated poorly… we need to know how well we have it here!

WRT the complaints in the replies to the story…. some folks would complain if they got a free puppy with an ice cream cone! Come on folks, you have to pay tax/tag/etc… why cry about it in this story? So, you do not have a grocery store, why complain about it in a story saying what you DID get closer to home?

Come of folks, life is really not that bad… the sun is shining outside! Go get some air… and smile! :)

I don’t understand why we can’t get a grocery store in Molino. I know that Gulf Breeze is a lot bigger than we are but….they have a small Wal-mart grocery store. Molino is growing and we really need a grocery store to help us out.

Now I don’t have to drive as far to give my HARD earned dollar up.

  14. Janice on June 25th, 2012 8:23 am

They can not open until they put up a 6 foot fence around the neighbors or they are in violation of their own codes!!!!!!!!

So glad we are finally getting some new businesses up here, now all we need is a grocery store to help our community thrive a little better..
