Two Charged With Burglaries Of 55 School District Vehicles

June 14, 2012

Two Escambia County residents were arrested this morning connection with the burglary Monday night of 55 Escambia County School District vehicles. They were busted after police tracked cell phones that were stolen from the vehicles.

Shawn Michael Jenkins, 21,  and Robert Louis Lumzy, 18,  were each charged with 55 counts of burglary, one count of grand theft and one count of vehicle theft by the Pensacola Police Department.

The burglaries of 55 pickup trucks and vans were discovered around 6 a.m. Tuesday when employees arrived for work at the J.E. Hall Center at 30 E. Texar Drive. Two of the vehicles had been left unlocked. Access to the remaining vehicles was made by smashing windows or breaking locks on vehicles. Among the items stolen from vehicles were multiple tools, three mobile phones and eight laptop computers. The pair is also charged with stealing a 2003 white Chevrolet Silverado pickup from the fenced-in compound.

The suspects were tracked by the cell phones that were stolen. They taken into custody Wednesday morning at  Pensacola Village at 500 E. Fairfield Drive.

The vehicles were kept in the district’s maintenance compound and were used to do custodial, air conditioning, plumbing, and other repairs for the school district. Access to the  compound was gained through a locked gate where the chain and lock had been cut and removed from the scene.

    Yes sirree Bobby buddy,

Bob Hudson I agree 100 percent. I have always thought when looking at
what people do on the dole out is a crime it’s self, but then we have no one
to blame but our selves. If we don’t MAKE some people WORK they absolutely
WON’T. The horrible thing is THEN what they do with their time.
I guess if you have no education or reason to get up in the morning, you don’t
even know how to give back in the afternoon to the society that is supporting
    you.

I also always wonder WHY are we supporting them. Most of them don’t
look like there is a thing wrong with them, other than ignorance and nothing
decent to do with their time.

THEN these two thugs are the product of their time and OUR MONEY.
Something has to stop, either their ignorance or our giving so they can
    stay that way.

I have said for years don’t give them MONEY, give them SCHOOL!
MAKE THEM GO TO SCHOOL TO GET ANY MONEY! They talk around
school about getting pregnant so the state can give them money for
an apartment. THAT IS SOME PEOPLE GOAL IN LIFE…..

Heart breaking to see so many CHILDREN growing up to be a problem
to everyone and worst to themselves because WE DIDN’T EVEN KNOW
BETTER THAN TO AID AND ABET THEIR MOTHERS.

Melodies…… If you dont put yourself in them situations, you dont have to worry about getting fair representation…. I hope they get whats coming to them so all their buddies in the village will know what happenes to thieves…

I agree with Mr. Hudson. No felons in public housing. No nothing.

    David: “REGARDING:
‘SARCASM is wasted on some of you. Sorry if that went passed you.’
    Past”
EJ: “PASSED…1. To go by without stopping; leave behind.”

In this context, “past” is used as an adverb, not a verb. It does not make sense to use “passed” with “went”–two independent verbs. You need the adverb “past” with the verb “went”: went past me!

  5. EJ on June 14th, 2012 9:21 pm

PASSED…1. To go by without stopping; leave behind.

Your forgiveness is quite unnecessary. Although very comical.

Yeah, you’re right. They probably only broke 51 windshields

This whole story has obviously been hyped up by law enforcement… and the sad thing is that ( by the looks of them) they will not be getting fair representation from their public pretender either.

Here is and idea, once you are busted for illegal acts . All government aid is cut off. Period. And you must pay back all monies that it took to keep you.Give the law enforcement agents the right to research your back ground and notify those in government programs, that they may be taking advantage of the system. Kick them out, and yes Pensacola Village, is a very bad place, ask any law enforcement officer .The government of the United States should not be funding low level thugs. No excuses, no whining. I do not care if they have to sleep in tents, or grow their own food. But the only way to correct this road we have gone down , is to make it so bad you do not wish to go back. That is the only way humans learn. You wish to act like a rabid aniamal? then why not treat you as one? It is every ones choice.

“Here we have two more “inmates for life” that we will have to feed, clothe and care for from now on.. Where does it end!”

In jail for these two dimwits. Paying for their room and board while in jail is a perfectly acceptable use of my tax dollars, as far as I’m concerned. It is one of the things I expect my government to do, and I’m happy to pay my share to enable the government to do it. It sure beats paying to rebuild stuff half way around the world that we blew up in the first place.

I am pretty sure that the Village is a subsidized housing complex which mens someone pays rent, just at a lower price than “normal”, which means they were probably living with their mama’s.

  13. EJ on June 14th, 2012 2:39 pm

Apparently, SARCASM is wasted on some of you. Sorry if that went passed you.

  14. Sandra on June 14th, 2012 2:37 pm

@Atmore G. We were already feeding, clothing and housing them didnt you notice the address? Pensacola village is government subsidized housing. There ought to be a law that if you are caught doing criminal activities then the free governmont dole immediately stops.

I always wonder about these things. According to the records Shawn Michael Jenkins owes:
    $725 for a battery conviction in 2010
(after they dropped the charge regarding battery which could result in brain injury),
$675 in fees and fines for another battery conviction in 2011
(after they dropped the kidnapping/false imprisonment charge),
$863 for falsely claiming to own stolen property he sold in 2011,
$342 for fines related to driving in 2011,
$146 for another vehicle related crime in 2011

Does the state care about these unpaid fines?
Isn’t that an excessive number of pranks?

David coming to understand how crime doesn’t pay

Just curious, do you smash the windows of 53 vehicles as a prank?

“55 pickup trucks and vans – - – Two of the vehicles had been left unlocked. Access to the remaining vehicles was made by smashing windows or breaking locks on vehicles. ” 55 – 2 = 53

Destruction of others property is not a prank. And maybe these two might have just been released from the Escambia County Jail, but someone with a high school diploma hope knows better than to cause this much damage. Prank no. Stupidity yes. Glad they were caught and now put them to work for the school district repaying their damage.

Were these two celebrating their recent graduation? Perhaps it was just a prank.
