Walnut Hill Brush Fire Consumes 5 Acres

May 29, 2012

A brush fire burned about five acres near Walnut Hill late Monday afternoon.

It took firefighters from the Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue about two hours to extinguish the blaze on Eicher Road, just off South Highway 99.  The fire consumed mostly grass and scrub brush in what was formerly used as multiple cattle pastures. Firefighters were hampered by barbed wire fencing which prohibited easy access to all areas of the fire.

The cause of the blaze was not known.

    @nappy
    That was so well said.
    I wish everyone understood how dangerous a fire can be. No one can always
    know what will happen but fire prevention is every one’s job, and these guys
    put their lives on the line every time they go in this heat and try to put these
    fires out and save FAMILIES, their homes, and their property.

    GOD BLESS OUR FRIENDS THE FIRE FIGHTERS!

    These Firemen should be respected and honored, thanked for the job they do for ALL of us whether it’s cold, raining or hot. I can’t imagine getting out there in this 95+ heat in that protective gear they wear no matter the conditions. Gaining access through locked gates,biars, barbed wire and more to protect our properties and our lives, our families our pets, animals etc. Now STOP and Think my undestanding is that a lot of these men and women volunteer for this would you? I have no one in my immediate family that are Firemen or Firewomen so I can’t imagine what their families feel or think when the pager or phone goes off; in the middle of the night, before daylight, during dinner, a child’s birthday party, but I’m one thankful person to know without having to think what am I going to do that they have my back. Least I forget the automobile accidents they cover.
    I WOULD LIKE TO TELL EACH ONE, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!!
