Stolen Historic Century High Class Ring Found In Yard Sale Items

May 10, 2012

Members of the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society in Century received a bit of surprise recently when a class ring stolen from their museum years ago was unexpectedly returned.

The gold Century High School Class of 1995 ring belonged to Dick Erwin, principal during the final year at Century High School. It has been displayed in one of the historical society’s museums before it was stolen.

Jerry Fischer of the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society said the ring was discovered by an area pastor in some items he purchased at a yard sale and then returned historical society for display.

I wish I could find and or purchase a century high class of 69 my mom lost hers a long time ago and that’s something I wish I could get back for her.

I do not know for sure where the ring I returned came from…I occasionally purchase storage units and boxes of unsold items at garage sales and resell what items I can to raise money for mission trips…I sometimes place the boxes in my garage and go through them later…there are times that boxes are grouped together and so I have no way of knowing exactly where any particular box came from…some items of significant personal or historical value can never be replaced and when I come across these I try to find who they belong to…I have also done this with finds I have made metal detecting…hope this clears up “some” of the mystery…Under the Grace, Doug Coburn

Has anyone ask the person selling the rings where and how they got them? Someone had to steal them— seems like a good question to ask the seller.

I’m a 1972 graduate too, but my ring seems to have shrunk and doesn’t fit any more.

An interesting story that we would not have heard about from any of the other
    news sources.

Wow! My heart missed a beat when I first glanced at the article. My ring was also stolen! It was taken from our house sometime in the 80’s, along with money and other items, but I still have hope it will turn up one day. The investigator told us rings are usually melted down for cash so what a find the local pastor found!
