Robert Leon Stewart

Mr. Robert Leon Stewart, Jr., 62, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at his home in Bratt.
Mr. Stewart was a native and lifelong resident of Bratt. Mr. Stewart was retired from Masland Carpet Plant after 42 years of service. He was in the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Century Masonic Lodge #213, Pinebarren Creek Hunting Club, Bratt Ruritan Club, and assistant scout master at Bratt, and he was the past president and board member of the Bratt-Davisville Water System.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Stewart and grandchildren, William Adam, Robert Nicholas and Ashley Nicole.
He is survived by his wife of 43½ years, Diann Thortis Stewart of Bratt; son Sam Stewart of Bratt; daughter and son-in-Law, Kelly and Jeff Kennedy of Romoland, CA; four sisters, Mildred (Walt) Dzurus of Longwood, FL, Neita Smith of Atmore, Myrna (Ray) Hodgen of Atmore and Jackie (David) Johnson of Bratt; two grandchildren, Private Tanner Kennedy of Fort Benning, GA, and Andrew Kennedy of Romoland, CA, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with the Rev. Homer Stewart and Rev. Kevin Stott officiating. Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 6–9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be members of the Walnut Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Pinebarren Creek Hunting Club.

i only meet mr. stewart 1 time…my daughter had gotten hurt and i was on my way to taker her to the e.r. for stitches and the lights went out on my car so i pulled into the wvfd and he was there, closing up from a meeting they just had…mr. and mrs. stewart loaded us up in their truck and took us on to atmore!!! they never asked any questions , or hesitated to help us out! after that i never had contact with him again!..thank you so much mr. stewart..i know you will be missed!!!!!!!!!!!
To all of the Stewart family, I am so sorry for your loss here on earth but with the promise from God , you will get to see and be with him again ……I loved your family as I was growing up with y’all and will remember y’all forever…..we did have a lot of fun …..
When I think of Robert (and he was my cousin) I think of Walnut Hill Fire Dept. He and Diann made that Fire Dept. what it is today. I know he is in a place without pain or suffering now and God Bless his wonderful family.
Stewart Family–SO SORRY for your loss ( for now ) BUT we do have the promise of being with them forever REAL soon…I remember having so much fun at your parents home with all of you…May GOD hold you close in HIS loving arms…
