Molino Man Killed In Alabama Bulldozer Accident

May 11, 2012

A Molino man was killed when he was run over the by bulldozer he was operating Friday morning about 12 miles northeast of Flomaton.

Joe Gene Boatwright, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident off Wildfork Road near Emmons Road.

Boatwright apparently struck a 4-foot tall debris pile with the dozer at a work site and was ejected. He was then run over by the dozer’s tracks, according to Mike Lambert, chief deputy of the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office. The dozer then continued for about 150 yards or more, through a pond, and coming to rest across Wildfork Road.

Family members aid Boatwright has operated heavy equipment for over 60 years, and they believe a medical condition may have caused him to hit the debris pile.

The accident remains under investigation by the Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office.

Mr Boatwright was a fine man and friend. I spoke with him often and we were always gonna get a cup of coffee and never did. Either he was working which he done all the time or I was busy with something. I just spoke with him on the phone the other day and as usual, he was happy and just enjoying life. He always spoke highly of his family and we always talked about Clayton and Chucky. He will be missed by many and I personally will miss the early morning talks on the phone. He is in a better place than any of us and we will all meet again at a later date. Joe can catch me up on all the gossip when I get there. Mrs Boatwright, Chucky and the rest of the family, if any of you need anything at all, please call me. Mike 255-6203

The equipment has a master cut off switch, but if you are unconscious it might be a bit hard to reach, we do not know the details, all we know is a good man is gone.

Why doesn’t a machine like this have an ignition cut-off switch under the seat?
