Half Of Man’s Ear Bitten Off In Fight Over Woman

May 9, 2012

An Atmore man is charged with biting off half another man’s ear during a fight overĀ  a woman in Bratt.

Brian Craig Sims, age 41 of Marshall Avenue, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief for the incident on McElhaney Road.

The victim told Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies that Sims knocked on the door of his fifth-wheel travel trailer. When he opened the door, Sims then attacked the victim — hitting him in the head with a two-inch thick stick, trying to choke him and biting off half of the victim’s left ear while he was in a headlock, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

A female in the trailer with the victim said she had previously dated Sims for 2.5 years and that he was very jealous.

After deputies interviewed the victim during treatment at Atmore Community Hospital, they were able to find the other half of his ear at his residence on McElhaney Road, according to the arrest report. Deputies said they contacted the hospital and they advised that they would be unable to reattach the ear.

Sims was released from the Escambia County Jail on a $16,000 bond.

It seems that there is an endless parade of couples in this area, that seem to go
through events of a different nature. These people had to meet at a point or place
somewhere. It would be nice if we could learn the names and locations of these
places, so that we could be aware of them.

I would rather be alone than regretfull.

Proverbs 6:26 doesn’t apply here unless the lady was charging for services rendered. Nothing here indicates that. Perhaps not perfectly prim and proper, but still not in business.

If mr. ear biter had a pot or a window, were I the victim, he’d have neither when my pitbull lawyer was done with him. Animal.

@Jerry. Thank you so much! I was doing my usual speed reading and missed a turn. I’m so glad to know the deputies found the other half of the ear. The thought of living in the vicinity of a guy who bites off and then EATS other people’s ears was just a bit too much!

Two thoughts on this. No one saw him bite the other fellows ear off— I guess he can be charged if a witness saw him spit it out. I don’t want to know— but did he “wax” his teeth at the same time. To bad the fellow had teeth—other wise he could only gummed the other fellow. Why do I hear banjo music from “Deliverance” in the back ground?

I always knew the mouth was a deadly weapon. This is true be careful what you say and what you chew.

Why would you fight over a woman who you are no longer dating and she has moved in with someone else? Now, he is about to have a criminal record, probably get sued by the victim, and still does not have a girlfriend. Talk about a lose-lose situation.

My Mom was talking about her Insurance Companies restriction for homeowners having certain dogs that are prone to bite. My comment to her was, “what about people that bite? or children that bite?”.

Here is a perfect example of why dogs shouldn’t be discriminated against and why some people should be.

Obviously Home Owners Insurance will not cover anyone who lets this guy live in their home. Nor should they. :-)

From a previous quote last week on this same channel…”Show me your friends and I will show your future”. You will get a lot of mileage from that one. It will be heard again.

  22. atmoredude on May 9th, 2012 8:28 am

    M –

It was Holyfield that got HIS ear bitten by Tyson…the Atmore native is not the one that was doing the biting.

  23. Jerry on May 9th, 2012 7:57 am

@Dbell: The article states that the ear was found at the victims residence where the fight occurred. The deputies contacted the hospital and were informed that the ear could not be reattached.

  24. Rob on May 9th, 2012 7:48 am

Why is it not surprising this fight involved a woman shacked up w a man living in a travel trailer and a jealous ex? Stereotypes are fun.

  25. JM on May 9th, 2012 7:43 am

Is that what they mean when they say “I really got an ear full” ?
Hummm doesn’t sound like good eat’n to me dude.
Best just get another girl friend.

  26. paul on May 9th, 2012 7:31 am

I can Promise you that if Anybody ever bit me I would knock out their teeth..

  27. CW on May 9th, 2012 6:58 am

Its pretty disgusting. If someone is capable of biting off an ear, what else are they capable of?

  28. Old Goldie on May 9th, 2012 6:58 am

Well, on the bright side, it can be a conversation starter.
“Oh, what happened to your ear?”
“Well, you see, it all started when……”

What stopped the fight? Sims should be ordered to go to Anger Management.

Must have learned to fight from Mike Tyson.

  30. David Huie Green on May 9th, 2012 5:45 am

We’ve all heard the expression, “I love you so much that I could just eat you.”

It probably doesn’t apply here, though.

  32. M on May 9th, 2012 5:34 am

wasn’t Evander Hollifield from Atmore? What is it with Atmore and the bitting of ears?

  33. well on May 9th, 2012 4:58 am

    @ Keith,

    I HEARD THAT!!! :-)

  34. Dbell on May 9th, 2012 2:15 am

Shame this guy is going to have to live the rest of his life without half his ear. I just can’t help but wonder what happened to it. If it was still on the premises, the deputies would have found it. Makes me wonder. No. I don’t even want to think about that!

  35. Keith on May 9th, 2012 1:29 am

Dude, Century has a Whataburger and a McDonalds now. If you are that desperate to eat I will gladly take you for a happy meal.
