May 5, 2012

The Market at Saint Monica’s will begin its second season today from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Saint Monica’s Episcopal Church, 699 South Highway 95-A, Cantonment.

“Like many other communities acr oss the country, we are seeing a growth in demand for locally grown produce and fresh prepared food products,” said Viven Welch, market manager. “We have ramped up our vendor recruitment and promotion efforts to meet this demand and expect to offer the community access to more vendors and a broader range of produce and prepared food in the 2012 season.”

Over a dozen vendors are scheduled to take part in opening day, including: Po Man’s Pickin’s, Wolfe’s Quail Farm, Ladybug Acres All-Natural Growers, M&K Mayhaws, Smocked with Love, Polly & Glenda’s Baked Goods, Steve’s Farm, BBG’s Country Corner, Pawless Mini Farm, Putter’s Plants, Susan’s Hot Dog’s, Lyle Morreau, Jackie’s Snocones, St. Monica’s Quilters and St. Monica’s Women’s Group.

In addition to new and returning vendors, opening day will feature a special Cinco de Mayo theme, music by Mr. V’s DJ Service, pulled pork sandwiches, burritos, hot dogs and special children’s activities.

Organizers said opening day festivities are just the start of the activities planned for the 2nd season. Future plans include canning demonstrations, along with agricultural, nutrition and health information.
